A new role, a new job. As Initiatives Manager I will be responsible for the development of new products, and management and implementation of NPD good practices.

I took over the development of a new product at Roke, called SmartLink. When I took over it was caught in a requirements/design trap and progress was very slow. I provided focus, guidance, and clear decision making which, a year later, finds the product ready for release.

I am currently fulfilling the role of Project and Programme Manager at Roke in a number of related projects for the UK MoD. Project Management for the development of an Operation Concept Demonstrator integrated onto a military vehicle. The culmination of this work involved a high speed development and integration of the work of multiple partners including large defence focused organisations and small commercial outfits. Completed on time, within budget, to the delight of the Client and Roke's internal Sponsor.

Development of a High Performance Computing platform based around the AdvancedTCA specification. A large project requiring me to manage software, hardware, firmware and test teams.

Development of a Process Instrument product for a major supplier. Roke followed the Client's development process and I led this process integration at Roke culminating in an approved and certified product being built at their own factory. As System Architect my role was principally to ensure what was delivered met the Client's requirements and could be proven as such.

Product Development of a UHF RFID Reader system compliant to ISO18000-6a, b and c, and a few other things too. A strategic product development for a leading manufacturer: technically challenging for Roke and professionally chellenging for me.

A Product Development for Siemens Mobile, turning a prototype Location Measuring Unit (LMU) into something they could build and install into their own Base Stations. The LMU was part of E-OTD, one of the competing technologies for the FCC's Wireless e-911 program. Its a GSM/GPRS location technology, but ultimately it lost out to UL-TDOA and toady, AGPS.

Development of a complex Height Monitoring Element (HME) for Eurocontrol's RVSM programme. Two systems were installed, one near Geneva the other near Nattenheim. Each system has five separate sites, synchronised using a patented GPS timing system to better than 1 ns.
