The position reports to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). Oversee the following units: Outreach Recruitment, Training, Talent Development Performance Management and Equity Diversity and Inclusion.

Reporting directly to the Chief of Police, the RVI Directorate's mandate is "to strengthen Equity and Inclusion, both internally and externally by providing guidance on systems and process improvements, ethics-based decision-making and interactions, and strategic relationship building with our partners and the community." The role of the Directorate is to lead and incorporate systemic change throughout the organization. 

The critical incident commander’s (CIC) role is to lead and coordinate the response to significant and potentially disruptive events. This includes defining objectives, strategies, and tactics, coordinating response organizations, ensuring responder safety, and managing all aspects of the incident site. Essentially, CIC has the central authority responsible for guiding the situation towards resolution.
