Executive responsibility for planning, directing, managing, and coordinating activities for the Behavioral Health Service. This role involves integrating behavioral health services across acute care and outpatient medical/surgical areas, ensuring alignment with strategic and operational goals. The designated executive for the Behavioral Health Service, overseeing fiscal and operational performance, and collaborating with senior management and clinical teams to advance the interests of MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Plans, organizes, and directs the programs and operations of the departments and programs of psychiatry. Ensures that program objectives align with strategic and operational goals. Establishes operational priorities and activities to support program success. Responsible for fiscal planning, results, and control, including budget formulation and compliance monitoring. Directs preparation of administrative policies and procedures for areas of responsibility. Manages the Signet Healthcare contract for psychiatric services and supervises related staff. Facilitates coordination of physician/advanced practice provider initiatives and reviews productivity metrics. Coordinates strategic planning and new program development in collaboration with leadership from strategic service lines. Participates in meetings to represent the Behavioral Health Service and reviews research proposals.

Providing executive leadership and supervision for program directors and administrative staff in Santa Clara County. Responsible for oversite and financial integrity of programs. Partnering with the CCO, to ensure contractual obligations are adhered to, while serving as the primary liaison to funders and the community at large. The Executive Director serves as a member of the Executive Management Team.

Oversight of programs and operations for nonprofit organization delivering mental and behavioral health services (counseling, case management, skill development, crisis prevention) to children, youth, adults, and families. throughout San Mateo County; control $8M annual budget. Led and directed performance of team of program managers and 75-member staff. Drove community relations and fundraising to support capabilities and growth, as well as data analysis to measure program successes.  Overseeing growth from local crisis intervention/suicide prevention hotline to full-service, client-focused, 24/7 Crisis Center. Offerings include 988 support and teen talk & chat, California FURS line, community mental health education services, Youth SOS mobile crisis support, school mental health presentations/consulting, and specialized data collection.  Led operations and growth of Community Wellness and Crisis Response Team (CWCRT) pilot program, from 4 to 12 cities and Bay Area police departments. Provided oversight of clinicians embedded in police departments to be dispatched alongside law enforcement officers, with goals to improve outcomes for supporting individuals in the community believed to be experiencing a mental health crisis.  Served on executive team developing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging initiative, including commitment to revisiting Star Vista’s mission, vision, and values. DEI initiative included: Affinity groups, DEI committee and education, and updates to HR policies and procedures. Participated in compensation management and succession planning, while promoting a culture of belonging and respect among all staff. Leader in effort to expand initiatives that reach beyond the workplace to address systemic inequalities in communities served and offerings provided.

 Trained and developed clinical staff for seven (7) locations and created clinical standards implemented companywide.  Opened million-dollar clinical facility in Walnut Creek, developing it into the top psychiatric crisis facility in Contra Costa County. CLINICAL ADMINISTRATOR |San Leandro, CA 2019–2020 Provided clinical and therapeutic support to clients; lead 1:1 and group psychotherapy sessions; offered guidance for transitioning to greater independence and substance abuse education to prevent relapse; nurture coping and life skills with Kaiser liaison to manage cases. Create discharge plans; encouraged engagement with outpatient treatment systems. Administered treatment services and program procedures, while teaching psychiatric concepts and recovery philosophies.  Ensured best practices were adhered to through ongoing evaluation of clinical treatment, education, and services.  Increased productivity by 15% within first 30 days by using time-management and client-scheduling system for 25-member case load.

PRE-DOCTORAL INTERN |Two (2) Locations Hope Solano Mental Health & Substance Use Treatment Center | Vallejo, CA Counseled children and adults in outpatient setting, leading individual psychotherapy and psychoeducational group sessions to support recovery and build relapse-prevention skills. Partnered with clinical treatment team on mental health and substance use screens/assessments, random urine testing/analysis, and dual diagnosis treatment. Casa Vallejo Crisis Residential Treatment Program | Vallejo, CA Provided inpatient group and individual psychotherapy services to clients, with focus on reducing symptoms developing functional living skills, and transition to lower levels of care and greater independence. Created discharge plans and educated clients on substance use prevention.  Delivered high impact creative art and interactive therapeutic group sessions using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) techniques for mild to moderately ill clients.  Developed client rapport, empathy, and exercised healthy boundaries while providing therapeutic support; authored clinically sound progress reports and assessments.

Administered diagnostic assessments for adults and seniors with a variety of mental health diagnosis. Have proficiently administered the KBIT, MMCI-III, Rorschach, MMPI-A, WAIS-IV, WMS-IV, WCST, WRAT-IV, and PAI among other diagnostic instruments.  Treated Bipolar I & II, Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Bipolar Type, Schizoaffective Major Depressive Disorder, Anxiety Disorder, Personality Disorders, Acute Stress Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Abuse and Addiction Disorders, and patients with suicidal/homicidal ideation.  Trained in the following theoretical orientations: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Humanistic/Existential Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Interpersonal One-to-One Psychotherapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Brief Solution-Focused Therapy, and management of assaultive behavior and crisis intervention. All treatment was research-based.

Provided services and case management to ethno racially diverse populations in the underserved communities of San Diego, CA. These populations included multi-racial, senior, children, adult and families. Services included individual, group, and family therapy, team consultations, and problem-solving using empirically tested solutions. Provided services to victims of domestic violence. Services included weekly individual therapy, and monthly family therapy, in addition to assisting patients with transitional housing. All services provided used a culturally responsive approach.

Provided services designed to address behavioral health issues of students ages 14-21. Services included individual, group and family therapy, medication management, and team consultation with school psychologist and teaching staff. Provided mental health rehabilitation services, designed to assist in supporting behavior modification. Provided family resource assistance, referral linkage, case management support, and development of goals and objectives for student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP). Managed caseload of 25 students. Other responsibilities included weekly individual therapy, daily check-ins, monthly family therapy and crisis interventions, as deemed necessary.

Provided services contracted by the forensic conditional release program (CONREP), the California Department of State Hospital’s mandated community-based program for forensic patients. Contract provided services to both mentally disordered offenders (MDO) and sex offenders (SOs). Duties included; Group and individual therapy, crisis intervention, medication management, progress reporting, behavior management and psychoeducation. Conducted monthly meetings with families in a therapeutic setting to discuss patient’s readiness to be released into the home and the community.

Provided therapeutic services to severely mentally ill patients diagnosed with a host of mental disorders, such as: Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, Bipolar I, Major Depressive Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Substance Abuse Disorder. Demonstrated ability to negotiate, and work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary staff including; licensed clinical psychologists, board-certified psychiatrists, pre-doctoral/post-doctoral interns, marriage and family therapist trainees, adjunctive therapists, clinical social workers, nurses, and mental health workers. Mandated reporting duties included: Child Protective Services, Adult Protective Services, and Tarasoff, as well as the development of Suicide Prevention Plans.
