Darvin Nelson

I create both studio and environmental editorial-style photographs and am constantly experimenting with light and concept to create unique and visually striking images. I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in photography from the University of North Florida in 2023. Selections of my work have been exhibited in numerous university galleries, local galleries (The Ritz Museum, The Corner Gallery, The Petite Jax, and The Anne Baker Gallery), as well as the Museum of Contemporary Art, Jacksonville. My images have also been published in Folio Weekly, Spinnaker Media, and Intune Magazine.

I have created a blog, Of Hearts and Pens, to publish expressive personal articles and poetry for the enjoyment of readers. I have been published twice in City Bus Print's "Alternative Routes" issue, a locally published literary Zine. Standby for future writings at ofheartsandpens.com

I have been studying photography at the University of North Florida since the summer of 2019. Athough, I have been learning photographic techniques for both film and digital camera operations for over 6 years. Studio lighting techniques, film development and darkroom processes, the history of photography, as well as developing a creative sense are some of the many things UNF has helped me improve.

- Helping UNF students with developing black and white film negatives, and darkroom processes by offering guidance and advice - Checking out photography equipment, such as tripods and cameras, etc. to UNF students - Maintaining the negative developing stations, digital print lab, lighting studio spaces, and darkroom - Responsibly cleaning and locking up the facility upon the end of the shift

- I write briefs and articles

I write and edit articles relating to News, Sports, and Feature content (politics, government, college, local news, university, profiles, trends, other human-interest stories, etc.). I manage and train the News Department at Spinnaker Media, including reporters, interns, and editors. I host a weekly editorial meeting, where the news team pitches website content, and we discuss ideas for the website.
