Dr. Darien Sutton is a board-certified emergency medicine physician and medical correspondent for ABC News, where he covers the intersection of medicine, technology, and public health. His reporting spans the health effects of smartphones and wearable devices, disease outbreaks and zoonotic infections, advances in therapeutics, healthcare access and coverage, and the growing impact of the modern food system and ultra-processed diets on chronic disease. He is known for translating complex science into clear, evidence-based reporting that centers public understanding and equity. Dr. Sutton began his relationship with ABC News as an intern during residency and returned as a contributor during the COVID-19 pandemic, later becoming a full-time correspondent. His coverage has included emerging weight-loss and cardiovascular therapies, FDA approvals of first-in-class medications, maternal and infant health, and evolving CDC guidance during infectious disease surges. He currently practices emergency medicine in New York City, where his frontline clinical work continues to inform his reporting.
