Housing Europe is the European Federation of Public, Cooperative & Social Housing. It gathers 43,000 housing providers in 24 countries. Together they manage over 26 million homes, about 11% of existing dwellings in Europe. As Research Coordinator, I oversee a number of projects related to the understanding and promotion of social and affordable housing. I also provide analysis of the trends in housing and other related data, as well as housing market developments both at a European and national level.

I moved to the Paris area in October 2018 in order to improve my French, teach English and benefit from new economic perspectives. I have used this time very productively and am currently working on a number of new research papers due for publication in 2019. These include: • An assessment of the impact of carbon taxes and environmental levies on the behaviour and financial position of Irish households (due to be published by the Nevin Institute) • A detailed economic and sociological review of the changing nature of household tenure over recent decades (collaboration with Dr Michelle Norris, University College Dublin) • An assessment of the direct and indirect tax contributions of Irish households (collaboration with Dr Micheal Collins, University College Dublin) • A comparative assessment of public housing policies for nomadic and traveller groups in Western Europe (report for the Irish Housing Agency)

I have been a research associate at the Nevin Economic Research Institute in Dublin since 2013. This has seen me collaborate with their economists on projects related to a diverse range of topics, including: • household taxation • income inequality • tax structures • household deprivation • carbon taxes • environmental policy • housing affordability • intergenerational equality issues • opportunities of young people today • household formation My work with the Nevin Institute has also led me to develop several proprietary data sets and models. This includes: • a dataset tracking the earnings of young Irish people (25-34) over the period 1987-2018 • a data set tracking average euro denominated nominal Irish residential property prices (1977-2019) broken down on a National, Dublin and Ex-Dublin basis • a personal taxation model allowing me to provide net earnings calculations given gross earnings for Irish workers over the period 1987-2019) In addition to my past published research projects for the Nevin Institute. I am currently writing a paper for them looking at the issue of carbon taxes and other environmental levies and their impact on the behaviour of Irish households. This paper is due to be published in the second half of 2019.

I was employed as an economist with AIB since early 2013. My role involved providing insights into the prevailing trends in the Irish, Eurozone, UK, US and Japanese economies. This also included writing reports on developments in areas such as fiscal and monetary policy, foreign exchange and fixed income markets, global and regional economic/political risks and macroeconomic modelling. I also contributed towards the Bank’s annual stress testing procedures and any related technical studies. My time with AIB helped me to better develop an ability to quickly and concisely summarise economic developments, communicate complex ideas to non-economists and manage very large datasets for the purpose of delivering timely insights. AIB has also given me great experience in taking initiative and holding myself to a very high personal standard of output. I left my position in AIB in October 2018 in order to relocate to France.

Originally I was hired by TASC on a 3-month internship contract in order to undertake a detailed study of income inequality in the Eurozone. The research is due to be published in conjunction with the Fondation Européenne d’Études Progressistes [FEPS] in early 2013. Whilst with TASC is honed my skills in the use of programs such as Excel and STATA. I also became very familiar with the Eurostat and EU-SILC databases. TASC also gave me the opportunity to work with and learn from some of the leading economists in Ireland. The knowledge and experience I have gained as part of the TASC research institution means I have the skills required to work effectively on any similar economic and data based research in the future.

My role at Event Sec was that of security/health and safety worker. In my time at the company I frequently worked as a member of a large team in order to co-ordinate the successful running of concerts and other similar events in and around the Dublin area. On a typical night I would be personally responsible for the health and wellbeing of between 300-400 people.

I worked at Arnotts, which is arguable the most prestigious department store in all of Ireland first from December 2006 until January 2008, before leaving to focus on the completion of my studies and then again from May 2010 until August 2011 when once again I left in order to focus all of my attention on furthering my education. In my two periods of employment at Arnotts I was employed as a Retail Associate. My responsibilities were to serve the customers, deal with financial transactions, manage stock and process stock orders. Working in an often intense customer service environment allowed me to develop excellent coping skills under pressure. I was also able to nurture the ability to work as part of a strong and dynamic team. I have successfully utilised the skills I learnt from my time in the retail sector during my time spent on various committees and social groups over the recent years.

This was a full-time employment during the summers of 2005 and 2006. My responsibilities were in the area of data management. I was required to process the financial and personal details of clients and present them in a rational and easily understandable fashion for my supervisors. From my time at Tradewins a strong ability to process, understand and manage large amounts of data was gained.
