As the Director of the Research Group in Technologies of Energy and Energy Efficiency (Groupe t3e), I am nowadays more and more involved in national and international activities aimed at improving the quality of life of people living in areas of the world where there is no connection to the grid. As the head of ETS’s Industrial Research Chair in Technologies of Energy and Energy Efficiency (2010-2015), the aim was to provide services to the local Chaudière-Appalaches communities and to join national and international initiatives in energy. In brief, the chair involved 42 graduate students/researchers and 25 active international collaborations. It earned above 3M$ in sponsorships, contracts and grants, and it published more than 100 publications in refereed journals (34) and refereed conference proceedings (93). Nowadays, thanks to the financial support and inspiration of partner, M. Michel Trottier, the t3e Group sustains the following activities: - Training of highly qualified personnel; - Fundamental and applied research; - Diffusion of the knowledge; - Thermal and energy analyses; - Support to communities to bring water and electricity; - Consulting in energy engineering. The t3e Group would not be as it is without the wonderful team of students that make it happens. Thanks to all of them for the diversified and significant results obtained after only a couple of years. A real team work for a starting group! As an invited professor I was responsible for delivering several seminars on energy related topics. I was also co-supervising Ph.D. students at the Faculty of applied sciences. I visited Université d'Artois every year from 2005 till 2010. I thank both Dr Stéphane Lassue and Laurent Zalewski for their help in maintaining my carreer as an active researcher when I developed the Lévis Campus of Université du Québec in Rimouski as vice-rector.

As special project director I was involved in the vast initiative called “Chantiers” ( scientific virtual building sites) that were aimed at gathering all (most) scientists and researchers of the Université du Québec network to work together as a massive task force on selected subjects. The main issues I was concerned with was Energy. I provided special support to this research and teaching area through the implementation of the Energy institutional framework that should enhance our development. I was also involved in fund raising along with the Foundation of Université du Québec and public relations for the vice-présidence à l’enseignement et à la recherche. I was providing support to any initiative of our establishments upon request. Many thanks to Daniel Coderre, VP Enseignement et Recherche at that time, who hired me and made me feel immediately confortable in his team.

Development of the Lévis Campus: - a novel 25M$ infrastructure of 150 000 sq.ft, 24 M$ PPP for services, - 7 new undergraduate and graduate programs, - more than a million dollars in financing of research labs and projects. - improvements of the impact of UQAR in its community. There is a paradox in this impossible job. How to actually develop the Lévis campus as a complete university unit without any grief from the main campus that now has less students registered than its satellite? This is the main objective of the vice-rector there. I would like to thank the former rector Michel Ringuet. First, for hiring me in 2004, this allowed me to gain considerable insights on the academic manager tasks with the latitude to ensure a four-storey high building in Lévis with several energy efficient features. And second, to offer me half of my salary for two years to elegantly quit in 2007.

Hired as an Assistant Professor in 1995, became Associate Professor in 2000 and Full Professor in June 2004. Teaching and research in design and thermal engineering. Won one international recognition in research (1996) and two Canadian awards in teaching (2002) and social commitment (2002). What I appreciated the most in Laval was the high spirit of the "Ingénierie, design et communication" team who I really acknowledge for their immense support through the construction of this Canadian award-winning course and all my undergrads of the heat transfer class who forced me to strive for excellence in teaching. Thanks to my grad students who suffered the beginning of my career.

As an invited professor I was responsible for delivering several seminars on energy, numerical methods, and engineering. I thank Prof. Jean Pasco for his invaluable collaboration in establishing a fruitful partnership between Université Laval and ENSAM and the transposition of this partnership to almost all Quebec's universities afterwards. I received 5 students from ENSAM over the Laval years. And, 12 more during my ÉTS appointment.

In Lyon I was first invited by former CETHIL director Jean-François Sacadura who was responsible for the Eurotherm committee of the 1996 Rome conference as a researcher in numerical simulation of combined-modes heat transfer including radiation in participating media. After my visit to Lyon, I was offered a visiting researcher position in 1997 and an invited prof position in 1999. The essence of the code was later implemented in EDF's own codes to predict radiation heat transfer along with fluid flow and convective transfer. I am grateful to Jean-François who considered me as a peer although he bared his tremendous reputation. This really helped my career at that time and lead to several fruitful partnerships with French engineering schools and universities.

Post-doctoral fellow

I was mainly concerned with the design and testing of experimental benches and protocols to evaluate the thermophysical properties of new dessicant materials. This lead to a novel enthalpic air exchanger design commercialized by Venmar in the late 90's : the enthalpic wheel. Later on I made sure an enthalpic wheel was installed in the Lévis campus of UQAR to enhance heat recovery capacities. Thanks to Vincenza Galatone who hired me and Sophie Hosatte who supervised me and allowed me to teach three courses a year at Polytechnique.

Thanks to the outstanding prof. Rabi Baliga who gave the inital boost to my carreer. I think he is still the best in the job after 40 years in McGill. We are the complete opposite but he is still inspiring my activities today. AWARDS while in McGill - Hydro-Québec, Major Fellowship - McGill University, Major Fellowship - N.S.E.R.C., PGS2, PGS3 & PGS4 Fellowships - F.C.A.R Fellowship Room 368 team is deeply acknowledged for the wonderful years in McGill: Neil, Robert, John, Christian, Stéphane, Simone, Nasrollah, Wadood, Nabil, many thanks. I finished the first draft of the thesis in 1992 and defended it in 1994, this is partly why I am recognized as a doctor in philosophy!

Thermal engineering
Thanks to Luc Robillard and Patrick Vasseur for their advices. AWARDS and distinction while in Polytechnique - N.S.E.R.C., PGS Fellowship - F.C.A.R Fellowship - Gaz Metropolitain Scholarship - Ecole Polytechnique Scholarship Degree completed in 13 months while my supervisor was in sabbatical at Cornell, NY and myself writing the masters thesis in Paris, France. Le bonheur, c'est la maîtrise!

Yvon Bouchard is the prof. who gave me the incent to become an energy expert. Thanks to him, I enjoy a wonderful career. AWARD while I was a batchelor student - QIT Fer et Titane Fellowship Bachelor degree completed in 7 semesters while working part-time job about 10-20 hours per week throughout the degree. Did not need much sleep in those years.
