Daniel Aguilera
Chassis Engineer @ UCI Solar Car
About
I am a UC Irvine Mechanical Engineering student with hands-on experience in design, analysis, and advanced fabrication techniques.Engineering isn’t just what I do; it’s who I am. I’ve always been driven by the challenge of turning a complex concept into a functional, physical reality. That curiosity has evolved into a passion focused on bridging the gap between high-level design and the grit of the production floor. As an Integration Engineering Intern at The Boring Company, I thrived in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. I had the opportunity to own mission-critical hardware workflows, resolving real-time build issues and defining assembly procedures for the Belt Booster system when formal drawings weren't yet available. My role centered on keeping production moving through engineering judgment and cross-functional coordination. As the President of Zotbotics, I’ve applied that same drive to community building—expanding our makerspace from 20 to over 400 members and raising $45k to support student-led robotics projects. Whether I’m leading the manufacturing of a competition aircraft for UCI Aero Design or performing crash simulations for the ZotSun Solar Car, I am committed to precision, reliability, and good Design.Outside of professional roles, I am constantly tinkering. I believe the best engineers are the ones who never stop building. I’m always looking to share knowledge and push the limits of what’s possible.

Experience

Chassis Engineer
Irvine, CA
-Designed the space frame chassis for a solar car vehicle, owning the development process from initial concept and design to assembly and manufacturing, utilizing FEA software to meet rigorous design specifications for the frame and other subsystems. -Engineered and implemented the integration of an improved battery system, managing space allocation, safety considerations, weight reduction, and cooling solutions, ensuring proper thermal dissipation of heat during race conditions. -Designed a robust suspension and steering system, optimizing wheelbase, roll center, and damping to enhance vehicle maneuverability and dynamic performance during race conditions.

Mechanical Engineering Intern
Irvine, CA
I am currently a Mechanical Engineering Intern at SQUID3 Space, where I specialize in the design and precision fabrication of spaceflight hardware destined for a 6 month mission aboard the International Space Station. Working directly under the leadership of the CEO, my primary focus is on the development of an electronics box enclosure and payload plate for the MISSE-23 experiment. My role involves utilizing CNC machining to manufacture hardware that meets rigorous flight specifications, with a critical delivery deadline for flight-ready hardware by April.

Lead Manufacturing Engineer
Led manufacturing operations for a competition aircraft program with aggressive build schedules Established a structured product management and documentation system to improve traceability and manufacturability Enforced creation of formal engineering drawings to improve builds and reduce rework Controlled and optimized part tolerances to improve fitment, repeatability, and assembly reliability Redesigned manufacturing processes to simplify fabrication and reduce dimensional variability Designed and implemented custom jigs and fixtures to enable rapid, consistent production of key subassemblies Streamlined manufacturing workflows to support on-time delivery while maintaining dimensional and quality control

Structures Engineer
Irvine, California, United States
Designed and built the truss structure for an 18-foot wingspan cargo airplane capable of carrying a 12kg payload, SAE Aero Design competition. Led structural analysis and design for the tail section, ensuring aerodynamic stability and proper weight distribution. Designed a robust and easy-to-fabricate connection system for the rear fuselage, ensuring the design was suitable for competition

Integration Engineering Intern
Bastrop, TX
- Supported mechanical assembly and MBOM workflows in a fast-paced production environment for mission-critical hardware. - Coordinated assembly of the tunnel Belt Booster system, gaining factory-floor experience with complex electromechanical systems - Owned redlines and resolved real-time build issues to keep production moving - Defined assembly order and procedures when formal drawings were unavailable, exercising engineering judgment and documentation ownership -Coordinated across engineering, production, and test teams to maintain schedule and build readiness

Engineering Intern
Long Beach, California, United States
• Engineered a protective awning for a caustic chemical loading rack, ensuring safety and compliance through structural load calculations. • Streamlined terminal maintenance operations by coordinating procurement of replacement components and developing an asset repository compliant with API Standard 2610. • Managed project planning phases for terminal infrastructure upgrades, including drafting Scopes of Work and overseeing vendor bids.
