Drafted memoranda and performed legal research for Chief Judge Joel Penoyar and Judge Bradley Maxa of the Washington State Court of Appeals.

I worked as a public defender in the Tulalip Tribes’ Tribal Court, which required passing the Tulalip Bar and being admitted to the Tribal Court. The faculty and students of this clinic provide public defense for tribal members who cannot afford representation in criminal cases. This position involved research and legal brief writing, in addition to experience as counsel during court proceedings and pre-trial investigation. It also provided opportunities to work directly with criminal defendants.

Throughout 2L year I was a member of the Technology Law and Public Policy Clinic taught by Bill Covington at the UW School of Law. This clinic involved legal research on various technology and public policy issues with the purpose of presenting findings to the Washington State Legislature. I did present to the Legislature in Olympia a report on Broadband Internet availability in Washington and the possibility of a statewide “universal broadband” fund.

We investigated racial disproportionality in the criminal justice system, particularly for minority juveniles. My team worked on a re-sentencing case in Lewis County where a minority juvenile was charged as an adult and given a 92-year sentence for a drive-by shooting where nobody was injured.
