I began my position within the VA out of high school, I started off as an HR assistant, and gradually elevated to an Employee/Labor Relations Specialist. This position consisted of managing disciplinary and adverse actions, write ups, grievances, EEO cases, dealing with the regional council regarding suspensions of 14+ days and removals, Union grievances, and more. This position allowed me to enter into a very difficult, and meticulous part of the HR world. The necessity for attention to detail and precision, was the number one priority involving every case I ever dealt with. This position tested my patience, and mental endurance, but over all I was mentored by a great HR manager, and I was able to take that experience with me to the DOI, and use those skills there as well.
