Working for hCentive, developed new features (both front end and backend) and fixed existing functionality for the Massachusetts HealthCare Exchange Marketplace portal. Technology stack: Tomcat/JBoss, Spring 3.x, Spring MVC, Hibernate 4, Javascript and jQuery, CSS3, Oracle, JAX-RS, JAX-WS.

Design interactions between services to fulfill requirements, based on previous analysis of existing use cases. Define detailed design documents for Java developers. Review XSD and WSDL's to ensure compliance to rules.

Responsible for maintaining J2EE legacy web applications. Led a 3-month project to develop a web application to deliver IRS-valid XML files via Bancomer’s web site. Analysis of a legacy application in order to migrate the application to comply with BBVA’s technological standards. Oversee junior developers to learn the internals of the applications and performed code reviews to ensure that high-quality code was shipped to the production environments.

Design, build and support a very successful system to manage the budget in the Ministry. The system meant a huge improvement in performance, development, licences and maintenance costs, reducing the process by 30% both in complexity and execution time as measured by users and directors alike; I introduced Usability to this team and as a consequence of that, the system enjoyed of great acceptance among the users, also reducing the tech support incidents and training time. By 2008 the system was awarded a prize and by the following year other Offices in the Federal Government adopted it, INBAL, Conaculta and Programa Oportunidades among them. Leaded a medium-size team to provide tech support to over 1200 users in different locations across the country. Provided architecture and design guidelines to develop internal projects.

Helped to create the architectural specifications the Crew Mandates project, which was then developed along with a team of 12 offshore developers. The project was designed to provide asynchronous processing of Flight Updates by using the Akka framework, integrating it with external systems through JMS, to publish and consume messages. I also Worked on a project to migrate a Tuxedo-based legacy system made in C language into a new Java one. The new system includes developing microservices, batch services and the development of new UI features for a Swing thick client. For this project, I mentored 8 offshore developers, performing code reviews and introduced them to additional Software Engineering practices. During this time, I also helped to improve E2E automated testing for the Crew Scheduling Systems department, by creating PoC's showing how these tests could be implemented and added to the CI process to increase confidence in the quality of the application and reduce manual regression testing efforts.
