As co-founder and CEO of a mobile CRM startup, Gaia Software (Portland, OR and NYC; defunct), built a 40-person team and raised venture capital with Morningside Group (Newton, Mass. now 5Y Capital, Shanghai) as lead investor. Led Fortune 500 C-level sales, including Estée Lauder, Tommy Hilfiger, Honeywell, and Cargill. Recruited VPs and sales. Led SaaS product definition, as well as definition of mobile web browser. As a software manager at Intel Corporation (Hillsboro, OR), was a product manager, a product line manager, and chair of the Strategic Business Segment (SBS) for software, led budget and project priorities for a 200-person organization, and led migration of an in-circuit to a simulation business through partnerships. I managed product managers of software tools, did product manager recruiting, and hired interns. I became visible initially by creating a marketing campaign that transformed a product from underdog to market leader.

In my academic career, taught at the University of Georgia (Athens, GA) and worked on a committee to add Japanese, after being interim Department Head at Danjiang Daxue (a Chinese university in Taipei, Taiwan) leading transformation from English literature to business English. Started there as a professor, publishing and presenting in Chinese and in English, wrote a PL/1 program for English learning, and graded the English national college entrance exams. Previously, was a Science Fiction teaching assistant at the University of Wisconsin (Madison, WI) with authors like Ursula K. Le Guin, Isaac Asimov, Philip K. Dick, Robert A. Heinlein, and Frank Herbert. As a student, coded data from particle physics experiments and held summer jobs as a paper mill vacation substitute as a welder, millwright, back-tender, and forklift driver. As an undergraduate, led the Student Union Literary Committee, which meant working with writers ranging from Isaac Bashevis Singer and Germaine Brée to Robert Bly and Gary Sny­der.
