Cody J. Locke

Leads projects for NIH/NCI, NASA, and 100+ universities and hospitals to commercialize a broad portfolio of their inventions through technology transfer offices and serves as an advisor to CAI's spin-outs. Through this position, I *get* to do market analysis, engage stakeholders, execute multi-channel media campaigns, evaluate financial models and business pitches, train entrepreneurs (>4000 to date) on valuation, R&D, and Federal Drug Administration paths, manage CAI's internship and global Ambassador programs, and make investment decisions. Since 2017, CAI's 200+ challenge winners raised >$2.6 billion and directly created >2000 jobs. 480+ CAI Startups raised >$3.3 billion and directly created >3200 jobs. Graduate Research Assistant: Graeme Davis Lab (Summer 2009 – Fall 2015) Performed electrophysiology, genetics, microscopy, and pharmacology with Drosophila melanogaster, resulting in a 235-page dissertation and three publications (Neuron, JCB, BBA). Formal Seminar Committee: Student Leader (Summer 2010 – Summer 2014) Served as the only student in the UCSF Neuroscience Program to invite, introduce, host, and schedule all meetings for acclaimed formal seminar speakers at UCSF since March of 2011.

Undergraduate Researcher: Guy and Kim Caldwell Lab (Spring 2003 – Spring 2006) Performed genetics, microscopy, and pharmacology with a nematode epilepsy model, which I pioneered with Guy and Kim Caldwell, resulting in two lead-author publications (Brain Research and Nucleic Acids Research), one co-author publication (Human Molecular Genetics), twenty national/local media stories, and the world's chief epilepsy genetics database. Journal of Science & Health at UA: Editor-in-Chief (Fall 2004 – Spring 2006) Edited three issues of Alabama's undergraduate research journal, JOSHUA, which led to international recognition by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society: President (Fall 2004 – Spring 2006) Acted as president of the UA Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society, for which I represented all biology students at departmental faculty meetings, promoted the organization through class presentations and a website, and organized monthly seminars.
