Cody Meyer
Director of Engineering @ Placon Corporation
About
Success to me is achieving our corporate goals meanwhile providing the support necessary to position our engineers to achieve their personal goals. Although I am an engineer at heart, this starts with recognition of the need to grow both technically and non-technically. Foremost, I focus on the fundamental interpersonal skills needed for success: communication, teamwork and leadership. From a technical perspective, I rely on my diverse technical experience consisting of process, materials, equipment, quality, design and validation, analysis and problem-solving. Pairing these skills with a relentless attitude is what I believe allows us to achieve our goals. I am proud of my diverse background, and it has given me perspective to make good business decisions. My experience comprises of both union and non-union facilities from aerospace design and assembly to continuous process manufacturing of polymers. Not only have I manufactured commodity goods, a majority of my work has focused on the creation and actualization of quality custom products.

Material Development & Process Engineering Manager
Madison, Wisconsin
I manage a team of process engineers that supports our corporate manufacturing operations including recycling, extrusion, thermoforming, and additive manufacturing operations of packaging solutions that service the food, medical and retail markets. We are accountable for the development of new products and technologies, implementation of new equipment and production support/troubleshooting. Additionally, I drive continuous improvement of the tools and processes that we use to get our work done.

Maintenance Supervisor, Wire Mill
Richmond, IN
I managed three shifts of mechanical and electrical maintenance personnel for the Richmond Plant Wire Mill and Plastic Mix cells. We are responsible for preventative maintenance as well as troubleshooting daily issues on wire drawers, stranders, rewinders, feed systems, extruders and some facilities components. Major projects include: 1. Planning and execution of equipment overhaul project in bobbin rewind area to achieve 50% down time reduction.

Process Engineer
Richmond, Indiana
I provided product and equipment support to three cells--which contained plastic extruders, cablers, and braiders--manufacturing multi-conductor cable and lead wire. I designed tooling using Solidworks and maintained all processing instructions and procedures. I led a cross-functional team in the daily investigation of rejected material defects in an effort to reduce production scrap costs. Major projects include: 1. Managing the international transfer of a $250k product line by establishing new processing methods and re-establishing a recycling program to minimize scrap costs. 2. Carrying out $100k in cost savings plans focused on equipment upgrades, preventative maintenance, processing standardization and scrap recycling.

Manufacturing Systems Analyst
Richmond, IN
I worked for the Materials Director of the Belden Americas Group providing data analysis to establish inventory levels for our North and South American manufacturing facilities. By integrating manufacturing dynamics and purchasing trends into our kanban calculation, I re-established inventory levels that helped us to achieve our on time delivery goals. Major projects include: 1. Leading a material pull system kaizen at our Richmond facility which established kanbans on critical, long lead time items and relocated manufacturing of product to a different line to alleviate time on a machine with demand exceeding its maximum output. 2. Analyzing raw material minimum order quantities and identifying $1.7M as a targeted reduction. 3. Refining sales inventory and operations planning (SIOP) process to improve visibility of business segments and improve accuracy of the process by involving all value streams. 4. Enhancing asset exclusion process by launching a shared information database across all marketing groups and improving communication with a process cycle calendar.

Project/Dynamics Engineer, Intern (Engine Systems Enterprise)
Rockford, IL
I assembled data acquisition systems for vibration and pressure testing on production and development programs. This position required familiarity with signal analyzers, signal conditioning modules and transducers (accelerometers, pressure transducers, and optical probes). I recorded and analyzed the data for validation reviews to identify any design risks. During that same time, I also contributed to the project/product design team for an aircraft cooling system. I participated in design reviews, performed engineering calculations to determine position and stress and maintained the program's bill of materials using Unigraphics.

Lean Manufacturing Engineer, Intern (CCS Denver Division)
Belden Inc.
Denver, CO
I learned principles of a material pull system and gathered product data critical to the system. Afterwards, I designed a material pull system with dynamic inputs to control the flow of all materials throughout the facility and concluded my internship with an MPS kaizen. I also supported some shop floor projects and implemented Belden's Lean Daily Management (LDM) business model by establishing metrics tracking and boards as a basis for communication and decision-making.

Supplier Quality Engineer, Intern (Engine Systems Enterprise)
Hamilton Sundstrand
Rockford, IL
I aided in the the formation of corrective actions following onsite investigations for various vendor escapes to mitigate future quality risks. Meanwhile, I discovered different manufacturing processes first-hand including CNC machining, gear hobbing, plating and electron-beam welding. I also communicated with international buyers to ensure the delivery of vendor supplied components for the 787 Dreamliner program.

Manufacturing Systems Engineer, Intern (Energy, Space & Defense Enterprise)
Rockford, IL
In my first professional experience, I supported the construction of an assembly cell for a new overhaul program, primarily with tooling and job instructions. I generated tooling layouts using Autocad to optimize process flow and programmed and operated operated a CNC router using Mastercam to create the tool holders. I managed to bidding process with tooling suppliers. Finally, I constructed electronic job instructions on a network-based webpage for ease of maintenance.
