network rail
Produce numerous types of cartographic outputs and geospatial analysis pertaining to rail infrastructure assets, and other themes such as meteorology, environmental aspects and socio-economic projects including suicide prevention, for a range of clients and stakeholders at a national scale. I regularly meet with clients and stakeholders to discuss and confirm their project requirements, for example in the Scotland Route where I have developed a very good business relationship and promote the services my team can provide. The chief software I use is ESRI ArcGIS which also includes producing applications in ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro. I am keen to learn and further develop my GIS knowledge and skills, and am currently learning FME, 3D Digital Terrain and Surface Models, and my work on a national rail-based Aerial Survey project has developed my knowledge in remote sensing.

geography
Although this course was a BA Honours in Geography, in the first year I also completed modules in related social sciences including British Politics, Sociology, Economics and British Social History. In the second and third year, the geography modules included Urban Geography, Rural Geography, Physical Geography and Cartography. The course included a fieldtrip to Malta, where I mapped agricultural landuse and mapped changes in urban environments. My dissertation pertained to a study of rural Buckinghamshire and the impact of poor public transport provision for different socio-economic groups such as the young and the elderly. This study was based on a questionnaire which I designed and distributed in the rural area of interest. Activities and Societies: Geography Society, Chess Society, Campanology Society

The MSc in Geographical Information Management pertained to the lifecycle of a successful GIS project approach (from data capture, through to analysis, and on to dissemination) and included modules in : Aerial Survey and LiDAR techniques, Remote Sensing, GIS Applications and Spatial Analysis. I took the course on a part-time basis, whilst I worked full-time in my role as School Organisation and Planning Officer at Milton Keynes Council. My thesis was based on my work, and pertained to projecting pupil yield from new housing developments of numerous types, in the growing town of Milton Keynes. The conclusions from my research and analysis went on to inform planning policy for the future provision of new school places for Milton Keynes Council.
