* Carry out design and design production checks on Signalling systems as instructed by more senior Engineers * Provide functional support and guidance to the Assistant Design Engineer(s) within the team on all aspects of Signal Design within allocated projects * Assist in the preparation of technical details, specifications and tenders for Signalling projects * Ensure technical and safety standards are maintained in all aspects of Signalling system work as instructed * Carry out Signal Works Testing and safely commission Signalling equipment into service.

* 1 Maintenance, faultfinding and correction on signalling equipment including CTC, supervisory equipment, point machines, power supplies, relay interlocking, track circuits. * 2 Maintenance of telephone exchange and transmission equipment. * 3 Supervising staff across the range from manual to semi-skilled workers. * 4 Shop floor training and mentoring of apprentices. * Acting Senior Signal Foreman * 5 Supervision of Signal Foreman and Signal Technicians. * 6 Maintenance and fault clearing in CTC controlled area. * 7 Assisting technicians in speedy fault clearing in the event of major faults. * 8 Budgetary control at cost centre level. * 9 Maintenance planning. * 10 Inspection of equipment within area of control.

As a Mechatronics Engineering student I researched on mathematical, system engineering and electro-mechanical solutions to engineering problems. My studies complimented my experienced fault-finding, evaluation and problem solving skills acquired over the years as a Railway Signalling Engineer. I was taught better ways of evaluating a range of solutions to engineering problems, and to choose and apply appropriate solutions to engineering systems. I learnt how to use software packages to design, analyse, and evaluate system designs. As I progressed I developed an understanding of digital signal processing and how to use this technology in designing out and solving engineering problems.
