Placement 1 (tech) Used Golang and SQL (presto) to create daily reports that automatically reconcile and notify the team if reconciliation has failed. Improved maintainability of existing reports via restructuring the code and creating reusable functions. Wrote unit tests and regularly debugged work. Placement 2 (data) Proposed the idea, developed the infrastructure and integrated the use of an automated Slack notification system. Developed an 'early warning system' based on customer journey data and created a separate system to update the technical team on when our data sources had refreshed. Mentoring and reviewing the code of three trainees at Code Your Future (CYF). Supporting their educational development through weekly sessions where we discuss their coursework and troubleshoot issues they are facing. CYF is a not-for-profit volunteer-run coding school for refugees, asylum seekers and disadvantaged groups. It is a ten month course that aims to provide the trainees with the skills and confidence to pursue a career in tech.

Completed the Data Science and Machine Learning pathways as part of the AWS Educate Challenge. The Data Science pathway covered topics such as big data, relational & non-relational data types and operating systems while the Machine Learning pathway covered the application and problem solving abilities of ML. Both courses took approximately 30 hours each and included assessments and knowledge checks. This experience strengthened my cloud computing skills and exposed me to the types of scenarios that roles in these fields would face.

Worked as part of a team of consultants to deliver technical solutions to clients using industry standard technologies. Given the responsibility of implementing an automated reporting web application, displaying key data regarding the clients work. Designed using full stack technologies including HTML/CSS, JavaScript (React.js & Node.js) as well as MySQL.

Based in the Transaction Advisory team in a highly confidential deal, focusing on helping a client acquire a €4bn renewable energy business. Communicated with technical experts to collate information and form a report. Project managed and owned this report which ultimately went to the main client. Used and advanced my Excel skills through extracting information from asset data that was then used in the reports. Quickly became a trusted member of the project team through consistent interaction with the global team. Was offered a two month internship with the Business Advisory team in the summer of 2020 which was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Spent time in many different departments of the hospital observing medical procedures, sitting in on meetings about the running of the hospital and learning how important the style of delivery of information is and how this varies depending on the type of information you need to convey.

Observed the work of the Pathologists in several areas of the lab and followed the processing of samples and the different analysis they underwent. Found the chemistry behind the drugs and materials used really interesting. Formaldehyde was in constant use which lead to me researching it to develop my understanding of the different types of fixatives and how the structures of the chemicals used affect the way they work.

Spent time in the National Grid training centre understanding how gas and electricity are supplied to the nation. Used this knowledge to solve problems relating to gas and electrical infrastructure.
