Cindy Want

I have been a lawyer for 20 years now and, while most of my career has been in a government setting, I consider myself lucky to have had a variety of legal experiences. Early in my career I had the opportunity to work as a federal prosecutor, human rights investigator, human rights officer, and as a volunteer lawyer at the Edmonton Community Legal Centre. The experiences gained in my early career gave me a sound foundation for my legal practice. Initially joining the government to work in legislative development, my role was expanded to include the other duties performed by an Alberta Justice Solicitor. In addition to providing advice on a number of legal issues facing my client ministry, I also reviewed and provided responses to human rights complaints, continued working on legislative initiatives (including a secondment to conduct labour law policy analysis), and assisted in the creation of contracts, grant agreements and research agreements. Every position I've had has not only required my strong research and writing skills, but also my ability to collaborate with a variety of people and entities. .
