Main Project: Targeting hypoxia regulated sodium driven bicarbonate transporters (NDBT) to reduce breast cancer metastasis Undertook a research project into the molecular mechanisms of pH regulation, hypoxia, and cancer metastasis. The project involved investigating changes at: epigenetic, transcriptional, protein, and function levels. Fusion proteins were produced to determine binding partners assays and co-localisation. In vitro migration and invasion assays were performed; as well in vivo experimentation to determine the effect upon metastasis. Mechanistic investigations determined that NDBT knockdown or inhibition reduced mTOR activation and HIF-1 stabilization in hypoxia. This culmiated in a loss of EMT induction in knockdown cells. Furthermore, metablomics and metabolism based assays were performed to determine the effect on ATP production, lacatate, ROS levels, and mitochondrial copy number and function. Contracted to work for GSK within the High Throughput Expression and Characterization group. Undertook protein analytics within Biopharm discovery to characterize antibodies for multiple projects and feed back results to project teams. This required the bespoke designing of each assay for each project or piece of data required. Tasks included epitope binning, active protein concentration quantification, affinity and kinetics determination, single shot binding screens, LC-Mass spec, and size exclusion chromatography etc. This was primarily performed using Biacore and Octet. Adittionally, MSD-SET assays were also performed.

Contracted to work for by VWR Catalyst as a research technician in Oncology iMED. Required to ensure the smooth operation of the high throughput screening of novel small molecule inhibitors in the search for synergistic effect. This project required the maintenance of 250 cell lines from a plethora of tissue types and correct dosing of 50 different compounds in a 384 plate well format. Automated systems used include Acumen and echo. The data was analysed using genedata, spotfire and other analysis packages

Genotyping Laboratory Technician

Undertook a variety of tasks ensuring the smooth running of the Whole Cohort SNPs genotyping project (WCSG). This included quality control testing, DNA extraction and preparation, and also process validation. Oncology and Cancer Biology
Masters course encompassing a large array of disciplines aimed at developing a well rounded scientist prepared for further research in areas related to cancer biology. I studied areas from Tummor immunology and physiology to statistics and drug design. Also I studied a variety of laboratory techniques aimed at providing me with the skills required to enter many labs and work effectively. For my thesis I investigated the interactions between a novel anti-apoptotic protein and a HECT family E3 ligase. My investigations required I master western blotting, co-immunoprecipitations, protease protection assays, and transfection techniques in addition to maintaining HEK 293 cells.

Human Biology
Undergraduate degree encompassing multiple areas within the field of life-sciences. I studied areas such as: Genetics, Pathology, and Microbiology. My research project Investigated the effectiveness of different chemical softening agents on morphology and staining intensity on nail speciemens.

Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology
Second year of my undergraduate degree studied abroad as an exchange student. I undertook a wide variety of classes aimed at giving me a broadening my understanding of human biology. Whilst a student I covered topics and participated in laboratory experiments covering: genetics, microbiology, histology, and nutrition. In addition, there was discussion of many contentious issues in biology were discussed and rigorous practice of paper critiquing.
