I was responsible for the agile ceremonies for a team of webops engineers within GOV.UK, who built tools and services used by other product teams. Introduced pair-programming to train new starters, ensure knowledge transfer, and minimise single-points-of-failure, and worked with the rest of GOV.UK to define the team’s role and backlog as stand-alone product team not general support.

I was responsible for agile portfolio management of teams working on common platforms for government. During this time, I worked with the teams to launch online payments and digital notifications platforms (GOV.UK Pay and GOV.UK Notify) and a platform-as-a-service offer (GOV.UK PaaS). I also initiated discoveries into single sign-on for civil servants, webchat, and digital forms, and ended a workstream investigating building internal tools for Civil Servants because resourcing limits meant they could not be built effectively and there was no clear strategy for gaining sufficient adoption. To build trust in the teams’ delivery, I worked with economists to prepare and iterate a £105m business case over five years for programme to deliver £895m savings, and worked with Product and Delivery Managers to integrate savings and benefits realisation into their planning. I oversaw the business management processes to support delivery teams, including managing contracts, procurements and recruitment.
