Emergency Services Superintendent | Strategic Safety, Emergency Management & Risk Leadership @ First Quantum Minerals

About

Experienced senior leader in emergency management, fire services, and health and safety, with a global career across municipal, industrial, and mining environments. I’ve built and led emergency and safety programs in complex, high risk operations, from municipal service in Canada to large scale mining projects in Central America and Africa. I hold a Master’s in Emergency Services Management and am currently completing a second Master’s in Mining Engineering. This combination allows me to connect emergency response with engineering risk, operational systems, and long term planning, focusing not just on response, but on how risk is identified, controlled, and reduced across operations. In my current and previous roles, I’ve led fire, rescue, EMS, and emergency preparedness programs across large, multi-contractor mining sites. My work includes emergency planning, training and simulations, audits and gap assessments, and supporting broader safety and risk management systems. I work closely with operations, safety teams, and contractors to improve readiness, strengthen critical controls, and ensure systems are practical and effective in the field. I’ve led multidisciplinary teams across multiple sites and jurisdictions, often in fast moving environments where decisions must be made with limited or evolving information. I’m comfortable operating at both a strategic and operational level, from supporting executive leadership and long term planning to managing complex incidents and building team capability. My certifications reflect both operational depth and leadership, including NFPA Chief Officer, Fire Officer I and II, Fire Instructor, Incident Safety Officer, and advanced Incident Command System training (ICS 100–400). I also hold NEBOSH International General Certificate, EMT and EMR certifications, and qualifications in hazardous materials response, fire investigation, and technical rescue. I’ve worked closely with regulators, contractors, community partners, and Indigenous groups, and have been involved in budgeting, capital planning, audits, and long term program development. I’m motivated by opportunities to strengthen risk management, integrate safety and emergency systems, and deliver safer outcomes for people, operations, and communities.
