The Great Recession was looming large when I started the first Ecopax foam plant in the Lehigh Valley. The economic outlook was bleak—too many suppliers were chasing after a shrinking customer base, prices in the packaging industry were in a free fall. One call I made to a local distributor still stands out in my memory. The local distributor ended the call with one dismissive line, “we don’t do business with second rate mom-and-pop shop.” Fast forward 17 years, the local distributor no longer exists. Ecopax has grown tenfold, with packaging product offerings including not only foam but also polypropylene and paper products. As an industry underdog, what has driven customers to place their trust in us and fuel our continued growth?
