Financing the Startup Venture Teaching Assistant

The goal of Management 626-1, “Financing the Startup Venture,” is to provide students perspective as current/future founders on the financing options for startups. The course also provides insights into how venture capitalists approach their role as investors, board members, and value-added advisors to startup technology companies. The course focuses on software and internet startups as its primary analogs for discussion. As Teaching Assistant, I mainly: • Assisted Professor Aziz Gilani and Professor Joanna Nathan in maintaining class participation • Provided one-on-one guidance on how individual students could improve participation (used MailMerge and Excel) • Learned a lot about venture capital and entrepreneurship as an observer of this MBA class!

Entrepreneurial Communication Teaching Assistant
The course Communication for Entrepreneurship introduces key concepts, tools, and practices of communication in the context of startups, small businesses, and other entrepreneurial ventures. The Liu Idea Lab for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (Lilie) is the entrepreneurship hub at Rice University. As a Community Management and Programming Lilie Lead, I worked on: • Ideating and developing new networking processes to manage the community of 1,400+ engaged Rice entrepreneurs • Supporting and iterating upon programs (such as the Rice Experiment Fund, Lilie Launchpad, and the Napier Rice Launch Challenge) to increase the accessibility and ease of allocating funds to startup teams
