Chris Tysor
Pioneer data integration lead @ ExxonMobil
About
Currently I am standing up a 250 person data management organization building Enterprise Data Products. We are working through technical, organizational, procedural, and political complexity to wrangle data and make it consumable by people, analytics, and applications. Previously I managed 6 teams across 4 countries focused on the creation of software products to turn research into reality. From Hadoop data lakes, to APIs, to HPC clusters, and web development, we enable the corporations best researchers to turn their concepts into products at scale across ExxonMobil. Scope includes headcount and budgets, skill development, cyber-resiliency, critical uptime, structural team improvements and strategic alignment, to name a few. The high-powered team includes PhDs and scientists, C/C++ , Python and Azure developers, and infrastructure designers and optimizers, This is an exciting team within a rewarding problem space and I'm grateful for the opportunity have an impact here. Previously I was in a role applying the innovation process to emerging digital technologies. Before that I was Innovation Manger in IT at ExxonMobil. This includes education, workshop facilitation, and execution of innovative ideas (prototyping, customer testing), largely centered around digital technology, but extensible beyond. This includes extensive work in Design Thinking, Creativity Theory, and Lean Startup Principles, modeled and influenced by academic and professional implementations. Prior to that I was in IT Strategic Planning, shaping the strategic vision of our IT company, and how Digital influences and changes business strategy. I ran a strategic assessment for the IT organization, and later coordinated an effort to define the digital strategy for the corporation. From here we launched a multi-million dollar "digitization" program, and created a corporate digital awareness program that has grown tremendously and altered the conversation within our business. We leveraged Willie Pietersen's Strategic Learning process, as well as a multitude of other models including scenario planning, value curve analysis, and concepts from Singularity University. Before that I supervised a team of 23 software developers specializing in geophysical and geological applications. Prior to this I spent 2 years providing planning and budgeting expertise in the Upstream IT organization. I also have previous experience as a team lead for a group of about 25 software developers, specializing in data movement and application integration.

Creating a new organization of 150 employees, and 100 managed service providers to treat data as a product, building master data sets, governance, and quality into accessible data sets. We also enable corporate-wide analytics use cases. We are building repeatable processes, streamlining organizations, all while treating data as an asset for scalable value. In my care are competent product managers using a scaled agile framework to build user-centric MVPs. The technical challenge of aligning business processes for data management across the enterprise is simultaneously immense and exciting. Core skills and technologies: Product Management, data governance, data modeling, organizational design, process modeling, stakeholder stewardship, value-driven metrics, OKRs, Scaled Agile, and more. Technology stack includes Collibra, Enterworks, EBX, Snowflake, Kafka, Mulesoft, Mural, ADO, and Azure SQL. Early Wins: Created and aligned on a common execution framework, metrics, and OKRs. Delivered our first data product. Identified $M's in potential value with identified customers. Launched 8 consecutive product development teams with a global resource footprint. Drove data operations SLAs to stable/green within 3 months of launch.

Shifted to Product Funding for added clarity. • Provided staffing, recruitment, retention, performance, and mentorship for global team of ~100 (direct guidance to 6 line managers and 6 solution architects) and budget stewardship of $13M in operations) • Dramatically improved cybersecurity performance (remediation and initial quality), agile cycle-time and throughput, and organizational communication channels. • Shifted staffing model for >$3M in sustainable cost savings while successfully delivering on business projects (GPU cluster completion, engineering application deployments, Azure modernization, data lake upgrade)

Senior IT Manager Manager, Strategy and Innovation
Texas, United States
Across two roles in ExxonMobil's IT Strategy division I developed a passion for strategy and innovation, founded on Willie Pietersen's strategic learning cycle and Lean Startup/Design Thinking principles. In these roles I created from scratch a strategic consulting organization, and a Digital Ventures organization to do early prototyping of emerging IT technology concepts. Specific accomplishments included: • Coordinated CIO-sponsored strategic assessment for entire IT organization resulting in 6 key tracks and over $150M in foundational improvements. • Strategic process advisor for CEO-sponsored Digital Strategy for ExxonMobil. Published strategic white paper still referenced today defining ambitions and resulting in corporate-wide digital investments. • Created and executed internal strategy consultancy, acting as process expert, building strategic roadmaps for >10 IT divisions. • Built and ran Innovation Team using LeanStartup and Design Thinking to experiment and build technology for computer vision, acoustic monitoring, and new business model opportunities. Two key experiments continue today at scale across ExxonMobil. • Created ExxonMobil's Digital University (EDU) to upskill senior business leaders in digital concepts (Big Data, Network effect, IoT, Platform theory, AI/ML, and Analytics) In these roles I built a unique knack for creating strategic clarity, aligning to the right problem to solve, building structures for deploying novel computing technologies across an enterprise, and a curiosity to ask better questions and drive transformative changes.
