Green chemistry routes to layered hydroxide materials for sorbents, rheology modifiers and catalyst precursors. New catalysts and processes for producing deoxygenated biofuels.

Industry liaison officer. Director of Applied Marine Chemistry Group. Set up and manage industry-academia projects. In 2 years over 1.2M of funding. Projects include: Marine algae based biofuels. Large petrochemical company funded project examining conversion of algae to biofuels. Involved large-scale culture, harvesting, separation and upgrading of algae. Investigated anti-microbial coatings involving silver nanoclusters in a polymer matrix. Feasibility studies of novel molecular entities from native marine organisms as antibacterials and drug lead compounds. UAV technologies for mapping marine habitats/environments in Wales - feasibility study funding.

Nanotechnoloogy research. Development of new clay polymer nanocomposite materials and methods for computer simulation to predice material properties.
