General Biology Laboratory II - I help students throughout their lab period with dissections, tissue and organ identification, microscope use, and worksheets. In this role I have learned how to distill complex concepts into easily digestible information. Organic Chemistry Laboratory I - I help set up equipment for students and aid during the laboratory period. I help get them to engage in critical thinking about the reactions they are preforming and apply ideas from lecture into their lab practices.

I am working with Dr. Caspers to quantify the taste quality of coffee beans. Our first semester focused on running the Lowry protein assay to practice and prepare for more complex research.

I am currently volunteering at DMC Sinai Grace Hospital as a Medical Assistant in the Emergency Department. I have gained valuable experience by responding to codes and seeing patients alongside doctors.

My Biotechnology and Research program partnered with the University of Georgia and received a new gene to test on planarian each year to see if it impacted stem cell regeneration. We started by preparing a research proposal on how to determine a change in behavior in Planarian. My team looked at how Planarian responded to light exposure for a genotyping change and visually looked at the new generation to find any phenotypic changes. We utilized PCR, Gel electrophoresis, and RNAi by feeding the replicated target gene to the planarian in their food. Our target gene was ATG101 and we used ccdB and SMEDSWI-1 as our controls.
