About

My art education includes drawing and watercolour classes at Alberta College of Art and Design, water and mixed media classes taught by Sharon Williams, oil painting instruction with Ingrid Christensen, and a water media workshop taught by renowned artist and author Stephen Quiller. I continue on a never-ending quest to expand my painting toolbox and hone my skills. Workshops, books, DVDs, and the wealth of information available on the world-wide-web guarantees unlimited opportunity for learning. I’ve been an active member of the Calgary Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists since 2009. Specialties: In 2008, I began blogging about my artistic journey several times each week. I find that this provides me with motivation and keeps me painting on an almost daily basis. I post on a variety of art topics including techniques used in my art work and the inspiration for my painting along with photos of a painting in progress or a finished piece. Painting [almost] daily has focused my learning, sharpened my skills, and deepened my appreciation of art in general.

Watercolour painting is my first love. There is something very exciting about laying down the washes, splattering, scraping, and just watching the water take the pigment where it needs to be. Floral arrangements and cloudy skies are most likely to entice my watercolours out of the drawer. I use only artist quality pigments and watercolour paper in my work. Three years ago I added acrylic and mixed media to my repertoire. I love the flexibility of acrylic – it handles much like watercolour but cannot be lifted once dry. But, never fear! You can always add another acrylic layer if you change your mind. I enjoy “painting from chaos” with acrylics. I often load my abstract images with meaning and symbolism related to my life experience. Painting then becomes spiritual, philosophical and meditative for me... my hope is that I’ve created a visual statement that others can recognize and identify with. I've now added oil painting to my repertoire and enjoy it very much. Feel free to check out my blog or website for more information.
