I was a laboratory technician in the CO2 supercritical extraction laboratory at Loyalist College. My role was primarily to ensure that the lab was well organized and was up to date with current safety standards. I was also involved in sample preparation, Soxhlet and ASE extraction, and method development.

I was a research assistant working on a project to characterize the novel phenotype and genotype of a inserted transgene. During this time I carried out various laboratory techniques including PCR, animal dissection, DNA analysis using Southern blot, protein analysis using Western blot, and preparation of tissue slides through the use of a cryostat and subsequent staining.

I was a teaching assistant for two first year undergraduate biological sciences courses. My role was to instruct students on how to implement basic laboratory techniques through experiments and incorporate them into the theory taught in lectures.

I volunteered as a research assistant in a developmental/cellular biology, and toxicology laboratory. I carried out laboratory techniques such as animal dissection, micromass cell cultures, and protein analysis through Western blot analysis and co-immunoprecipitation. I continued on to complete a honours thesis in this laboratory as a part of my BSc in Biology.
