Project scientist, with an extensive technical expertise in mammalian cell engineering, cell biology, and bionanalytical methods. I have worked in several fields over the course of my graduate degree, postdoc, and in industry, including research in oncology, infectious diseases, and inflammation. I am equipped with an excellent skill set of cell culture and animal models, target validation, biochemical assay development, as well as protein and glycan purification and structural characterization. I am motivated to understand the molecular mechanims behind diseases and discovering new targets that can translate into novel therapeutics.

My PhD thesis was focused on identifying the structural requirements and genetic factors leading to the sequestration of the malaria protein VAR2CSA to the placenta and cancer cells. I identified the structural requirements of chondroitin sulfate for VAR2CSA adhesion, and discovered novel regulators of chondroitin sulfate biosynthesis by genome-wide CRISPR/Cas9 screening. Furthermore, I characterized the substrate specificities and activities of various chondroitin lyases.
