I was one of five picked within my course to go and compete at the Interior and architecture design event, held in the inspiring Roca London Gallery in Chelsea Harbour. The brief was to redesign the pier to revive the area; as a team we had to come up with a concept and show it in plans, visuals and a model for a presentation at the end of the day.

After a two week placement over Easter I was offered the opportunity for summer employment at Camellia Interiors as an Interior Designer. I was responsible for helping with design work in the studio, drawing up specifications and liaising with reps, suppliers and clients personally. My role also included running the showroom and front of house, which involved dealing with customers, both in person and over the phone, on a daily basis.

During Easter I had a two week placement with Camellia Interiors. This involved: working in the studio engaging with materials and the design library, I was also involved in regular design meetings and helped with everyday organisation in the studio. I loved this work experience as it fuelled my studies for the final push in my degree.

Being part of the student ambassador programme at Falmouth University has given me the chance to engage with prospective students and parents about the Interior Design course and the University as a whole. From talking to, directing large groups and working on a front desk, I feel this experience has helped improve my communication skills.

After completing my degree I joined MoreySmith for a two week placement, to further my understanding of this industry. I got the chance to apply my passion for design, whilst gaining knowledge of the processes used in commercial and workplace interior design. The experience involved working with programs I had learned in my degree including AutoCAD. I was also giving tasks to source furniture and interior accessories as well as researching case studies and key inspirational images.

I got the opportunity of a two week placement working with an Interior and Architectural Company, where I saw first hand the way this industry is run. This really gave me the passion to grow as a designer and motivated me to want to succeed in having a career in this practice. The experience involved; observing client meetings and presentations, updating digital database and putting together presentation boards for their on-going projects.
