I was the Dean of the School of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences (SNRAS), a multi-disciplinary School at UAF. I was also the Director of the Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station established in 1898 in Sitka, Alaska and the foundation of the establishment of the Agricultural College and School of Mines that became the University of Alaska in 1917. We remain the core of the land grant mission in Alaska and continue, with the Cooperative Extension Serivce to provide research, education and outreach to the people of Alaska interested in enhancing food security in the state. We have made important connections to the American Pacific islands with whom we have much in common including our indigenous populations and our distances between small communities. Our work is in economic development related to natural resources primarily in the state of Alaska. We have worked for oil companies, small farmers, agricultural projects, forestry related development issues and most recently marketing and controlled environment agricultural production.
