As the Site Portfolio Champion at BMC, I collaborate with Genentech to reduce barriers to clinical study participation and establish best practices for inclusive clinical research across the biopharmaceutical industry. This includes, establishing best practices for inclusive research advisin on clinical study design, co-creating patient support materials, innovating through a collaborative feedback loop, and serving as a community-facing resource.

As the Research Director for the GenderCare Center at Boston Medical Center, I collaborate with researchers, clinicians, and communities to assess and address the health and well-being of transgender and gender diverse people and communities.

The Advisory Committee on LGBTQ Issues highlights LGBTQ+ news and topics related to patients, trainees, and physicians.

The American Medical Association (AMA) Advisory Committee on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Issues provides a forum within the AMA to address the needs of LGBT physicians, medical students, and patients. The Advisory Committee also provides advice and counsel to the Board of Trustees and to AMA staff when appropriate on policy matters that bear directly on LGBT physicians, students, and patients and on developing strategies, programs and policies to better serve these AMA members and potential members.

During my tenure as President: 1) USPATH has expanded opportunities for direct membership involvement. •We established a Research Committee focused on expanding trans health research and evidence base across comprehensive care disciplines. •Students and Trainees have a dedicated Special Interest Group with regular meetings and opportunities to mentorship. •Memebership increased 10% 2. USPATH strengthened its connections to external stakeholders. •USPATH is an active participant in policy development with the American Medical Association as well as GLMA: Health Professionals Advancing LGBTQ+ Equality. •USPATH joined various coalitions to tackle key issues affecting the health of trans communities, including the National Minority AIDS Council Coalition for Justice and Equality Across Movements, the Equitable Professional Societies Network, and more. •USPATH joined the United States Joint Statement Against Conversion Efforts to protect the public by committing to end the practice of so-called conversion therapy in the US. 3. USPATH, with WPATH, ensured the evidence was heard and that misinformation was corrected • We submitted public comments to various rule and regulation proposals across two administrations, highlighting the evidence supporting the provision of gender-affirming care across the lifespan. • We collaborated with researchers to respond to various research publications and reviews to ensure methodologies are sound and that research is placed in the appropriate context (e.g., the effects of gender-affirming care in Finland, a point-by-point evaluation of other country reviews of the evidence, and calling in researchers to do better to protect access to care). 4. USPATH, and WPATH, transitioned executive leadership. More organizations are asking for USPATH input, expanding our influence to improve the health and well-being of our communities.

The LGBT Health Policy & Practice Graduate Certificate Program was developed in response to this need with the assistance and consultation of health care and policy professionals in the government and private industry. The first of its kind in applied LGBT health, our program trains current and future healthcare leaders on strategies for addressing LGBT health issues, reducing health disparities for LGBT people, and for moving the field forward toward a more inclusive, equitable state.
