Ship owning – the company owned 2 General/ Multipurpose Vessels and 4 Bulk Vessels. Key responsibilities included: Performed technical and commercial management of vessels by directing a team of 25 employees ranging from junior level to senior managers. Directed implementation of administration and operational improvements for quality environment. Set team targets and performance reviews; trained and developed team member and motivated them to perform well.  Ensured empowerment of team members and responsibilities commensurate with potential. Identified / implemented revenue/cost saving opportunities contributing through strong negotiations, smooth operations. Responsible for business promotion and brand equity along with bottom line and EBITA of the company. Provided objective analysis and innovative solutions to a wide range of shipping issues, this included but was not restricted to cost and productivity optimization and safety and environmental issues.

Development and construction/mechanization of BOT iron ore berth 16 million tons. Construction of coal berth for commercial business – 14 million tons. Developed, managed and executed budgets in each area of operation, focusing on short-term and long- term plans together with financials. Obtained permission from Government authorities enabling smooth start up of project. Reviewed progress and performance and provided reports on results and approved changes in direction of plans. Reviewed and approved cost control reports, cost estimates, manpower and facilitated requirement forecasts. Entire control of planned outlooks, budget spending, labour and material efficiency, engineering effectiveness, customer service and human utilization. Developed long-term and short-term marketing plans and strategies to enhance market share and create brand equity for sustainable growth and profitability.  Interacted closely with key customers and proactively understood customer needs and requirements.  Additional responsibility of complete logistics, supply chain domestic and export by rail, road and sea– iron ore, coal, met coke, coal and steel products (HR, CR and plates). Construction of new berths, dredging of channel and approaches for deep draught port.  Handling of third party project and bulk cargoes.

 Key responsibility for EBITA of Sea Logistics covering under departments. Hazira Port and terminal, Commercial, Technical and operations of port. Technical management of 30 owned vessels and two floating cranes. Complete Port and Terminal Management of Hazira port upto stockyard. In chartered, operations and commercial management of bulk carriers, Project, heavy lift and steel vessels.  Lighterage operation at Hazira anchorage to plant from mother to daughter vessels by using floating cranes.  Handling of ten million tons of import and export cargo for Essar Steel plant.  Direct reporting of 50 personnel from junior level to senior managers.  Shipping agency for chartered vessels.

 Key player in implementing new logistics and distribution strategies.  Key communication link between logistics operation and production management.  Reduced raw material inventories using better forecasting and improved high level reporting.  Consolidation of branch inventories into regional centre to improve accountability, improved customer service levels, reduced inventories, and transportation costs.  Identified /implemented revenue/cost saving opportunities contributing over USD six million through strong negotiations, smooth operations, freight management, contract of affreightment, spot and time.  Chartered tonnage and minimization of claims.  Lighterage operation from Mumbai port to Dharamtar port.  International trading & 3 PL - Coal procured from China, S. Africa, Indonesia, Australia and Oil from Arabian Gulf. Delivered to end users plant stockpile (Steel, Cement, Power).  Client need reviewed through consultation, plant/warehouse visits, review existing logistics processes and review designed solutions using benchmarks.  Provided clients with potential budgets and comprehensive review of transportation and warehousing recommendations.  Designed & managed purchasing reports in six countries.  Reviewed pricing trends and negotiating contracts with suppliers and receivers.  Established innovative costing approaches for supply chain savings.  Implemented market strategies & operational efficiencies to build positive operating stability.  Prepared presentation and training material to market distribution function.  Developed business proposal for potential new clients.

 Started up a new project, logistics & private port. (Dharamtar Port).  Obtaining statutory permissions from all government bodies for the port.  Conducted detailed warehousing & transportation studies for raw & finished goods movement, port management.  Negotiated with major carriers for transport consolidation.  Scope included USD 200 million in inventory & USD 80 million in transportation budget - chartering and operations of chartered in tonnage.  Introduced advanced logistics modeling & strategy tools.  Developed system strategy & organization structure.  Engaged in strategic purchasing review in purchasing raw materials and all corporate purchases were studied.  Developed various strategies by product type and resulted in various cost reductions.  Established bank financing for acquisition of vessels.  Technical and commercial management of vessels.  Managed & trained 16 staff who were directly reporting to me.
