ABBOTT LABORATORIES / ABBVIE, Abbott Park, IL 1996 to 2013 Director, Integrative Pharmacology, Global Pharmaceutical Research and Development 2003 to 2013 (17 Senior Staff, 23 B.S./M.S., 2 Post-Docs, 1 Admin.) Lead a diversified pharmacology unit which provided pivotal datasets enabling advancement of Discovery compounds into early Clinical Development. • Served as a member of the Discovery Leadership Team responsible for the scientific direction, budget, and promotions for 975 employees across multiple international research sites. • Initiated and established a new research area (Renal) leveraging global academic collaborations, selected contract research organizations, and focused internal resources to advance new pharmacologic targets. • Represented Discovery on the Renal Therapeutic Area Executive Committee (Discovery, Clinical Development, Regulatory, Marketing, and Commercial). • Chosen as the GPRD Leader for the Grants and Donations Workstream • Appointed as a Charter member of the Technical Assessment Team for Abbott BioVentures (Venture Capital Arm for pharmaceutical investments – Preclinical lead on a Series A financing). • Major contributions to numerous in-licensing and acquisition opportunities. Senior Group / Project /Senior Project Leader, Integrative Pharmacology 1996 to 2003 Responsible for safety pharmacology profile for all compounds in Abbott’s late Discovery portfolio. • Authored or approved hundreds of R&D reports for Regulatory submission. • Provided Discovery leadership for both efficacy and safety pharmacology as one of three Abbott representatives on the Abbott/BioRex Collaborative R&D Committee. • Significantly increased the Translational Medicine capabilities of Abbott Discovery by expanding Preclinical Imaging both in technological capabilities and headcount. • Managed capital budgets for new technology acquisition and facility renovations.

Senior Research Scientist, Associate Research Fellow Managed a team of scientists responsible for defining the potential CardioRenal applications for a series of selective adenosine agonists. Identified/validated a set of novel targets in the heart failure and/or peripheral vascular disease space.
