Most telematics executives talk about safety. Few study the causation underneath it. I've spent two decades on the risk side — the human, operational, and systemic factors that turn a routine drive into an incident — and the last several years working out where AI can shift the curve. I lead Powerfleet's Australasia business (Nasdaq: AIOT) — a global AIoT SaaS leader in fleet intelligence, video telematics, and mobile asset safety. I've run the region since 2018, first as Managing Director of MiX Telematics across Asia and Oceania with full regional P&L ownership, and since the 2024 Powerfleet–MiX business combination as Managing Director, Powerfleet APAC inside the merged global business. Our customers run commercial and service fleets — utilities, field services, government, delivery, transport, logistics, and the heavier end including mining and haulage. Light service vehicles, passenger fleets, and delivery trucks make up the bulk of the asset mix. The common thread is drivers on roads every day, and vehicle incidents are among the leading causes of work-related fatalities in our sectors. What we sell isn't really software. It's the difference between a workforce that goes home and one that doesn't. Inside the day job, I'm doing two things at once: 1. Leading the region. APAC commercial strategy, channel ecosystem, enterprise customers, and the in-region integration of MiX Telematics and Fleet Complete into Powerfleet. 2. Working at the intersection of AI and road safety risk. Distraction detection, fatigue inference, predictive risk modelling, in-cab coaching, real-time hazard alerts — the operating playbook for fleet safety is genuinely changing, and I treat staying close to that as core to the executive job and leading the global road safety practice. The combination — deep understanding of road safety risk, the executive seat to act on it, and AI as the practical lever — is the lane I write and speak from.
