Andeavor was acquired by Marathon Petroleum in October 2018. I am assisting the combination and transition of Corporate Affairs activities.

Briefed senior executives on key federal, state and international legislative and regulatory issues to ensure the full business impacts were understood and prioritized. Developed corporate positions in support of Federal lobbying efforts. Areas of focus included: state campaign finance laws and federal position on electric industry restructuring.

Developed cleaner burning gasolines by working with government and industry to develop regulations to require cleaner gasolines.

Design, develop, and market smart optical combustion sensors.

Implemented first lean burn engine emission control system in a research vehicle as part of developing advanced emission control systems.

Lead a team of HSE specialists (health, safety, environment, and aviation) supporting the businesses in delivering excellent HSE performance. Support includes: planning, implementing, assuring, and continuous improvement. Activity scope includes both onshore and offshore upstream oil and gas seismic, exploration, development, and production. Geographic scope is North and South America, Southeast Asia, Africa and the North Sea.

Lead a team that supports delivery and assurance of health, safety, and enviroment (HSE) for new country entry. Support begins before appraise stage and continues through exploration. Objective is to take a new country from nothing to a fully functioning HSE team with systems consistent with company policy, standards, and practices.

Led environment team, as part of a global HSSE function, responsible for developing global environment standards, sharing best practices, and globally supporting environment delivery.

Led a professionally and geographically diverse, integrated, 13 strong communications & external affairs team supporting BP’s west coast businesses: Refineries, ARCO Retail Marketing, BP Alternative Energy, and BP Shipping. Responsibilities for California, Washington, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, and Hawaii: state and local government affairs, crisis response, issues mgmt, public affairs, media, political/PAC contributions, regulatory affairs, reputation and community affairs. Budgets - $8M Ops and $11M community contributions. Strong technical and environmental background combined with deep business understanding have created numerous successes with positive differential impact on environmental policy, regulations, and legislation

Managed BP and ARCO’s external affairs for Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia - state and local lobbying, issue management, regulatory affairs, public affairs, crisis response, media relations, political and community affairs.

* Led ARCO California lobbying and responsible for all relationships and issues which are legislative, political, or regulatory. * Led ARCO involvement in electric restructuring legislation with $130M benefit to ARCO co-generation business. * Successfully passed legislation to require phase-in of vapor recovery equipment with $5M savings to business.

Led 8-strong machinery and electrical engineering staff in Maintenance Department of 240k bbls/day Los Angeles Refinery. Led $60 million of engineering modification projects that produced cleaner gasoline and reduced air emissions at Los Angeles Refinery.

Lead a team of 30 professionals with company-wide accountability for all Government Affairs, Corporate Communications, External Policy and Shared Value. Tesoro is an oil company with 7 refineries, logistics, and retail assets in Western and Mid-continent US.
