Brian Munyao Longwe is a leading African ICT strategist and internet infrastructure expert with over 30 years of experience transforming the continent’s digital landscape. He has played a pioneering role in establishing Internet Exchange Points (IXPs), championing telecom liberalization, and developing broadband access across Africa. His work spans multiple countries, where he has led cross-border infrastructure projects, advised on ICT policy, and contributed to digital entrepreneurship ecosystems. Brian is currently the CEO of Converged Technology Networks (CTN) in Malawi and is actively engaged in initiatives like LIONEX - Lilongwe’s first IXP, aiming to keep local traffic local and boost internet growth. He has also driven regional innovation through mobile money, m-commerce platforms, and digital payment systems. Developed data pipelines for automated ingestion of teacher-entered assessment data via mobile and tablet-based electronic forms, with seamless integration to EMIS through custom APIs. Created interactive dashboards and data visualizations to support school- and district-level decision-making, including tools for monitoring National Reading Program performance and publishing annual school report cards. Delivered training materials and job aids to enhance local capacity in data collection, analysis, and quality assurance, ensuring broad accessibility and sustainability of tools across central and decentralized education stakeholders.
