Brandon M. Tarbert

I manage all aspects of business deal flow, contract negotiations, and corporate engagement at Clearway Energy, a large-scale renewable energy company, for commercial and industrial customers. We routinely transact with the largest companies in the US to help them achieve their sustainability goals through financial and physical energy transactions. I've managed the successful execution of PPAs, Tax Credit Transfers, and long-tenored REC sales for gigawatts of clean power projects in numerous deregulated energy markets across the United States. I also manage diligence, siting, interconnection, and energization of co-located and Behind-the-Meter datacenters for operating and development generation assets in varying ISOs. This effort has led to the successful energization of over 100 MW of load at an operating asset in ERCOT, and development of over 4 GW of potential new load in ISOs across the US co-located with thermal and renewable generation.

I worked with a diverse and experienced team consulting companies and governments on efficient strategies to deploy smart cities technologies creating safer, smarter, and more resilient urban environments.

I worked with a team to construct and manage financial modeling and quality assurance for large-scale commercial solar projects. Additionally, I consulted on marketing materials, messaging, and targeting for commercial solar clients. I also worked with my team to identify commercial targets and land leases ideal for commercial and grid-scale solar projects.

I led our capstone team researching and analyzing the effects of the Reforming the Energy Vision, and other regional policy frameworks on the New York power sector. These directives seek to modernize and transform the electricity system while also reducing their associated emissions. This modernization will allow managers to react nimbly in various energy circumstances coordinating distributed generation, demand response, and smart grid technologies with traditional centralized power generation. Our team developed an analysis of the potential future scenarios before New York with regard to technology, emissions, policy, finance, and rate design.

I led a coordinated a team to analyze the current jobs market for perspective Columbia | SIPA Energy and Environment graduates. We cataloged perspective employers desired skill sets and competencies. Then, to further the analysis, we compared these skill sets to the curriculum currently available within the Energy and Environment concentration and throughout the Columbia class umbrella, which spans the Columbia Business School, Columbia Law School, The Earth Institute, Mailman School of Health, and School of General Studies. This analysis allows the Concentration's students to identify which classes are necessary to teach the skills sets required to secure potential positions at attractive companies.

I constructed short-, medium-, and long-term strategies to reduce Williams-Sonoma's electricity consumption carbon footprint through on-site renewable energy generation, bio-gas consumption, carbon offsets, etc. Furthermore, I worked to help Williams-Sonoma identify and leverage current and future practices to increase their position as a leader in Corporate Social Responsibility.

I assisted in researching and developing reports and briefs on renewable energy and energy efficiency markets and the financial mechanisms necessary to deploy them.
