Worked in Iowa State Agronomy department with responsibilities in research and extension. Managed a research laboratory, supervising graduate and undergraduate student employees. Responsibilities included ordering of all materials, maintenance of laboratory equipment, and conducting regular safety surveys. Involved in all stages of agronomic and soil fertility research projects, including: grant writing, plot design and establishment, coordination with farm managers, development of sampling and lab analysis protocols, and data analysis. Completed two final research reports for granting agencies summarizing research results, and presented findings from one report to the granting agency board of directors. ISU extension activities included writing and editing articles for the annual Integrated Crop Management seminar and leading training sessions on soil management at the annual Crop Management Clinic (ISU Field Extension Education Laboratory).

Managed and updated the Iowa Soil Properties and Interpretations Database (ISPAID). Responsibilities included the addition of information as new soil surveys were released for each county, sorting soil data to make land use interpretations, organizing and leading quarterly project meetings, and revising the ISPAID guidebook.

Management of field research trials of maize inbreds, including experiments to characterize herbicide tolerance and seed germination response to drying rate. Supervised interns and seasonal workers as well as coordinating with research locations across North America to ensure quality data. Development of field data collection methods and implementation of new data collection technologies across maize research and production groups. Extensive work with large datasets and developing databases in Microsoft Access and FileMaker Pro.
