* I cover the local sports scene in Cranbrook, BC, including the WHL's Kootenay Ice, the College of the Rockies PACWEST volleyball program, Cranbrook Bandits American Legion Baseball, Mount Baker Secondary athletics, as well as the many other sports teams and individuals in the community. I am responsible for all sports coverage in the Townsman including: * Conducting interviews and writing 10-12 articles a week * Self-generating ideas for the majority of published work * Copy editing all submitted articles using CP style * Taking, editing and organizing photo archives * Laying out multiple pages for print edition (three times a week) * Posting articles online and promoting them using social media

* I oversaw the features section of The Peak student newspaper by: * soliciting and writing long form journalistic articles for the middle spread and back cover * collaborating creatively with and overseeing the work of a production team to lay out the section * researching, conducting interviews, and writing articles with importance to SFU * completing a first edit of all copy (fact checking, libel checking, grammar, spelling, and flow) * curating the online features section on The Peak website, including vetting web comments * regularly posting stories and updates on social media, including Facebook and Twitter

* As the team photographer for the Western Hockey League's Kootenay ICE, I am responsible for capturing game action shots at every ICE home game as well as a number of other events and requirements including: * Headshots and other league requirements * In-game sponsorship and promotional photos * Other requested community initiatives

* I oversaw the creation of the Humour section on a weekly basis including: * soliciting, aiding and abetting the inclusion of humourous cartoons, articles, pictures, parody advertising, and other amusing content * collaborating creatively with and overseeing the work of a production team to lay out the section * completing a first edit of all copy (including fact checking, libel checking, grammar, spelling, and flow) * curating the online humour section on The Peak website, including vetting web comments on humour articles * regularly posting stories and updates on the section on social media, including The Peak’s Facebook and Twitter accounts

* As the Founder and Managing Editor of the magazine, I was responsible for The Tartan’s overall operations, including staff management and creation of the magazine by: * holding responsibility for all content that appeared in the final print and online editions of the magazine. * exerting editorial oversight over all copy for the magazine, with the assistance of the Associate Editors * organizing and directing all meetings, including general meetings, pitch meetings and Tartan editorial meetings * maintaining a seat on the hiring committee, and conducted interviews and hiring when necessary * overseeing the magazine’s circulation and distribution, attending and supervising production of the magazine, and acting as the magazine’s human resources * frequently completing research, conducting interviews, and writing articles with importance to the SFU community * organizing the business elements of the magazine including reaching out to and negotiating with printing companies and formulating the detailed business plans

* I work to ensure materials are placed correctly throughout the library by: * sorting and shelving a variety of library materials, including books, periodicals, and pamphlets * revising the order of materials on shelves, maintaining desks, shelves and public areas in an orderly fashion

I achieved a GPA of 3.17 and received top marks in the upper-division credits of my major. I was heavily involved in The Peak Publications Society and both worked for the student newspaper (The Peak) as a writer, photographer and editor before starting an affiliated student magazine called The Tartan of which I was the Managing Editor. I also participated in a number of recreational activities including futsal and soccer intramural, and frequently attended campus events.
