PEEK research project: Agent Based Parametric Semiology Architecture and urbanism order social processes via their semantic associations as much as via physical separation and connection. The built environment functions through its visual appearance, via its legibility and its related capacity to frame and prime communication. The built environment is not just channelling bodies. It is orienting sentient, socialized beings who must actively comprehend and navigate ever more complex urban scenes. As a communicative frame, a designed space is itself a communication as premise for all communications that take place within its territory. http://www.parametricsemiology.com/ http://i-o-a.at/research/ https://agentbasedparametricsemiology.github.io/

en{coded}fields was born as an offspring of Zaha Hadid Studio at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. This is a workshop series meant to forward the legacy of the Studio’s philosophy and teaching methods in order to generate debate on localized issues, based on various event’ locations. The name is a reflection of double meaning; on the one hand as design-heuristics by the necessity of introducing meaning in the architectural territories and on the other hand as modi-operandi, through the use of coding or parametric design to help solve and articulate complex architectural societal functions.

En{coded}fields. Polymorphism En{coded}fields. Polymorphism is an advanced design workshop in Florence, taught by Bogdan Zaha and Daniel Bolojan. The workshop’s contemporary discourse will introduce a series of global methodologies through formal explorations of possible design heuristics enacted by the medium of computation and parametric design. The multidimensional offerings one has at hand within the design space give the possibility for almost endless problem space speculations. The need for such explorations comes as an inherent architectural problematic of the ever more increasing global connectivity and changes within the ways we interact. In order for speculation to become lawful one has to acquire meaning. As a core competency, architecture’s task is to articulate form and function into a binomial relation that meaningfully addresses societal needs. Through our approach we carefully articulate this relationship through architecture’s physicality as an information vessel, a milieu specific receptor that transpires as a semiological medium. Architecture’s capacity to “speak” to its users is an essential parameter for a fluid and legible built environment. This workshop is an opportunity for architects, designers, artists, students of Architecture and Art interested in developing contemporary design strategies through the use of digital techniques. Participants will have the chance to go through a professional design workflow that will combine the use of different tools such as Autodesk Maya, Rhinoceros and Grasshopper; they will build up several technical skills and share their own design ideas. BRIEF En{coded}fields. Polymorphism aims to investigate possible scenarios for some Florentine sites that are under the radar for future development and could provide a base for further discussions involving the local community.

En{coded}fields. Fibrous Agency is meant to be an advanced design workshop in Florence, taught by Bogdan Zaha and Daniel Bolojan. The workshop’s contemporary discourse will introduce a series of global methodologies through formal explorations enacted by the medium of computation and parametric design. The workshop will offer a comprehensive insight into the world of Parametricism and devise a global design language by implementing various computational techniques built on a solid theoretical foundation. We are exploring possible design heuristics via computational and parametric tool sets. The multidimensional offerings one has at hand within the design space, offer the possibility for almost endless problem space speculations. From the animation industry and graphic interfaces to coding platforms the array of possible architectural findings is boundless.
