About

Dr. He Bo is a leading specialist in copper metallization and tandem solar cells.Since 2004, Dr. He Bo has been engaged in the design and development of high-performance photovoltaic materials at research institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Max Planck Society in Germany, the University of Sherbrooke in Canada, and the Berkeley National Laboratory in the United States, as well as at photovoltaic companies in both China and the United States. He served as a principal scientist at two renowned U.S. photovoltaic companies, where he developed the world’s first high-performance transparent photovoltaic glass; After returning to China in 2018, he joined LONGi Green Energy Co., Ltd., a global leader in the photovoltaic industry, there, he established the LONGi Tandem Lab and led the research and development of high-efficiency crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem cells. In November 2023, the tandem cell developed by his team achieved a photovoltaic conversion efficiency exceeding 33.9%, setting a new world record for silicon-perovskite tandem cells. For the first time, empirical data demonstrated that silicon-perovskite tandem cells can surpass the S-Q efficiency limit 33.7% of single-junction solar cells, a finding of significant scientific importance in the field of solar cell research. This technological breakthrough was also selected by the renowned MIT Technology Review as one of the Top 10 Breakthrough Technologies of 2024. Currently, the tandem cells developed by Dr. He Bo’s team have achieved a efficiency of 35.2%, while wafer size tandem cells have reached 34.2%, and tandem modules have achieved 29.4%—all representing the best research level of tandem cell R&D. He has filed 150 Chinese patent applications, 43 of which have been granted, and 12 U.S. patent applications, 6 of which have been granted. As first author or corresponding author, Dr. He Bo has published more than 40 articles in top-tier international journals such as 《Nature》 (3 papers), 《Science》 (1 paper), and 《JACS》, with over 6,000 citations and an H-index of 29.Dr. He is a joint professor at Xi'an Jiaotong University.
