Responsible for the improvement for Spectroscopic Reflectometry and Spectroscopic Ellipsometry systems optical performance

Responsible for the optical design of all optical inspection systems in Coherix’s product portfolio • Successfully lead optical design in a $5 million project of developing a 3D machine vision inspection system o Principal optical system design role of a compact, high speed 3D optical inspection system from proposing design concept, building prototype, testing to design transfer o Develop the lens specs according to system requirements; conduct incoming prototype lens optical performance testing o Design four different LED lightings into a very compact system and meeting lighting spatial and angle distribution requirements. Use Tracepro simulation and radiometry experimental data to identify suitable LEDs. o Invent self-contained virtual temperature compensation fiducial to track multiple 2D and 3D sensors' relative movements without interference with inspection parts’ movement o Solve stray light issue: working with supplier for the lens barrel modification to reduce stray light from lens; mask the sensitive area; design the baffle reduce the stray light • Optical design of Tru3D vision platform a 3D machine vision system based on structure light with DLP o Lead the optical system design, define subsystem specs according 3D machine vision system requirements to achieve cost effective solution o Work with custom lens supplier to design a projector lens for reduce the focus shifting due to the environmental variation

• Responsible for optical design of 2nd generation Shapix Surface Detective based on multi-wavelength holography technology and provide support for current product line o Lead optical system design, define system specification, identify optical components suppliers, tolerance analysis for manufacturing o Design fiber based laser illumination and LED diffusive illumination; stray light analysis and elimination o Identify new technology products to upgrade the current design for cost reduction and reliability improvement for key optical components such as variable optical splitter, tunable lasers o Troubleshoot system isolation table vibration issue o Develop Interferometer alignment, image sensor focus, incoming key optical component inspection procedures; prepare FDA laser safety documents

• Developed wafer inspection applications with dark field optical patterned wafer inspection tools for defect inspection, localization, and analysis.

• Discovered first continuous wave blue electrically pumped random laser (400nm) inside Nd3+: Al2O3 nano-powders; Discover first continuous wave optically pumped random laser inside Nd3+: Y2O3 nano-powders • Developed ultraviolet (UV-C) scintillator for bio-decontamination and boost its UV-C emission intensity one hundred times to the baseline.
