In the 1990s, I led the research team that discovered both the RNA and protein components of human telomerase, the enzyme that holds the key to reversing cellular aging. For this work, my team and I were awarded 2nd Place for National Inventor of the Year in 1997.The clock of aging is found at the tips of our chromosomes — in structures called telomeres. Every year, telomeres get shorter. When they run out, the cell dies. Telomerase can add length back to the telomeres. I know this because I helped discover it.Sierra Sciences has spent over 30 years developing the science to activate telomerase in human cells.
