As a Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Smartville Inc., I lead strategy, engineering, finance, sales, procurement, asset management, and company operations as COO and Chairman of the Advisory Board. In addition to the above, I plan and implement key organizational changes to improve effectiveness, increase company safety metrics, and reduce costs. I lead series financing by making a pitch deck, speaking to prospective venture capital investors, and applying for federal grants and loans. A few key accomplishments in this tenure include: • Commissioned the first type of second-life stationary energy storage system by using two different OEMs, converters, and inverters for behind-the-meter bill reduction, solar energy arbitrage, and peak shaving/demand reduction. • Negotiated and implemented the first kind of supply agreement for second-life EV batteries. • Sold systems to utilities, key industry players, and private commercial customers.

During my time over here, I led a cross-functional team of analysts, financial analysts, engineers, and commercial market experts to optimize storage projects through design, market dispatch, and contract structures. I created technical and commercial roadmaps of future products for various markets. I coordinated with the external project and product engineers as well as legal, insurance, and procurement to move products through toll gate stages within budget and schedule. Moreover, I analyzed multiple hybrid solar and storage commercial and technical architectures leading to an optimized AC coupled design with the first contract structure adding storage to an existing solar plant. I conducted meetings with potential buyers and partners about Power Purchase Agreements and project sales. A few key accomplishments in this tenure include: • Co-optimized energy storage and renewable plants; improved revenue stacks from different sources by multiple projects worth $500M+, while leading a cross-functional team of engineers, procurement, construction, development, O&M, permitting, interconnection, and financial analysts. • Developed key metrics and specifications to lower the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOS or LCOE) by leading EDF's development of an optimized energy storage system from cell to project level by working with internal/external stakeholders. • Oversaw the development of proprietary control software to interface with different storage systems, DAS, SCADA, monitoring, and historian software programs, while setting standard interfaces for fast deployments. • Established proprietary AI/Machine learning software to forecast prices, interface with different internal/external systems, and optimally bid storage and hybrids into power markets. • Examined non-lithium-ion storage technology to explore potential superior technology at long-time scales; collaborated with key vendors, EDF North America, EDF China, and EDF France to vet the technology and supply chain.

In this tenure, I played an integral role as a company subject matter expert in solar, energy storage, wind, demand response, electric vehicles, distributed energy resources, energy efficiency, gas generation, and financial hedges. I served as an expert witness in multiple regulatory proceedings and disputes dealing with energy storage products, general energy markets, and renewables. A key accomplishment in this tenure includes: • Saved customers' $160M over multiple contracts by serving as the technical and regulatory lead for SDG&E's renewable and storage RFOs, while optimizing solicitations and creating straightforward analytical tools.

In this role, I established solar, wind, and storage financial models for debt, equity, and tax equity transactions building in automatic error checks, transparency, and macros for solving linear regressions and search functions. A key accomplishment in this tenure includes: • Developed Sempra's solar module quality program by sampling products from 10 different vendors, while running multiple samples of each module from each vendor through 8 different life cycle tests.

As a Post-Doctoral Analyst & Graduate Student Researcher, I analyzed terabytes of data by performing complex statistical analysis techniques, map-making, filtering algorithms, and Monte Carlo simulations. Furthermore, I actively engaged in designing, testing, operation, and performance analysis. A few key accomplishments in this tenure include: • Created a novel polarized microwave telescope and installed it at the geographic South Pole of the Earth. • Awarded NASA Graduate Student Researchers Project Fellowship at Goddard Space Flight Center. • Awarded Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) Fellowship.
