After leaving Amazon I founded this company to work on the Factom blockchain while traveling the world. My biggest achievement was the launch in November 2019 of a mining pool for a new Proof of Work blockchain application, that has been used by over 2000 users. This service communicates and coordinates thousands of heterogeneous CPUs located around the world and processes in real time the result of their work. I designed, implemented and deployed every aspect of the platform (server app, client app, backend API, website, database), as well as handled the promotion, customer acquisition and tech support of the service. I share the complete system design in this article: https://medium.com/@luciap_tech/the-orax-mining-pool-system-architecture-65d3b282c7aa This had also been a unique experience as I got to design and develop a dozen of software projects: server applications, client applications, cross-platform desktop applications, websites, CLI tools, and standalone libraries. For many of them I had to learn new technologies (Electron.js, Golang, MongoDb, GraphQL...). Majority of those projects are open-source (https://github.com/PaulBernier) and cover a wide range of my software engineer skills which I highlighted in the PDF attached to this description. I improved my DevOps skills by maintaining a fleet of 8 Linux servers as well as deploying, instrumenting and monitoring multiple services, including some Docker containers, Node.js back-ends and Golang applications. I set up a Prometheus/Grafana infrastructure for monitoring my services. Finally I was managing the company itself, handling all the legal aspects, optimizing the cost of operation (cloud infrastructure and 3rd-party services) and finding new project opportunities and get funding to develop them (100% of the grants I applied for were accepted).

I designed and built tools to monitor and provide visibility on Amazon worldwide transportation network. Working with Java and Spring Framework and heavily leveraging AWS services: S3, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, CloudWatch, Amazon ElasticSearch, Redshift... I collaboratively designed and implemented a new service that was collecting asynchronously dozens of different types of signals from the whole Amazon transportation network and automatically detecting abnormalities (late truck, route deviation...). This service solved a major pain points for human operators monitoring the fleet of trucks by highlighting in close to real time any issue happening worldwide and allowing them to mitigate issues much faster, saving millions of dollars over a year. In my early days I also worked on a reporting platform that aggregated data from multiple transactionnal services. It initially served as a big cache for UIs showing the state of the Amazon transportation network but it took importance and became a central point of the architecture and required upgrades to scale. A very interesting project I participated in was to design and implement CQRS architecture for this service. I also worked on adding ElasticSearch to provide search capability over the huge amount of data stored by this service. I built on the side a dev tool for myself that over time ended up being used across the entire Amazon Transportation Org. That was pretty cool. I also was the first across Vancouver Transportation teams to pursue an AWS certification, and earn it (Solution Architect).

Design and implementation of a transpiler JavaScript to Lua together with a Lua runtime library allowing to execute JS scripts on embedded systems with minimal resources and not able to run a classic JS interpreter (e.g. ARM Cortex M4 is used at Domora). Development in C++ (with Boost) of a side channel attack library in the hardware security lab. Implementation of several cutting edge attacks involving readings of research papers. High performance was a key point: use of OpenMP, Eigen3 (linear algebra) and some insight in OpenCL.

Distributed emergency erasure system: C++ development using OPENSPLICE DDS middleware, Qt framework (GUI), OpenSSL.

-Design and implementation in C of a system of 3D captcha. Development of a lightweight 3D renderer. -Worked with a team to develop a website of instant win game. I developed the backend in PHP with Symfony2. -Migration of the advertising sales house adincent.com to Symfony2.1 with addition of features and improvement of user experience. Implementation of a RESTful API with backward compatibility.
