Benoit Pouyatos
Laboratory Manager @ INRS France
About
I am in charge of a lab dedicated to the prevention of occupational risks related to the exposure to noise and toxicants on the central nervous system and the peripheral auditory/vestibular organs. My activities include exploratory research, assistance on the workplace and expertise for occupational physicians and regulatory agencies.

Research topic: Clinical effects of the deep brain stimulation of pedonculopontine nucleus on gait freezing in the parkinsionian non-human primate. Technical approaches: Monkey handling and training; Locomotion on treadmill; Local field potential recordings using a prototype of wireless recording device; Deep brain stimulation.

Research Assistant
Grenoble Institute of Neurosciences
Research topics: (1) Development of microbeam radiation therapy for epilepsy in mice and rat models of epilepsy (Collaboration: ESRF ID17 and Institut du Cerveau et de la Moelle, Paris); (2) Dynamic mapping of seizure generation in rodent models of epilepsy using flexible multielectrode arrays (Collaboration: CEA-LETI; use of BioMEA). Technical approaches: Microbeam Radiation Therapy; In vivo multichannel electrophysiology and intracellular recordings; signal analysis; MRI; Behavior; Histology.

Research Assistant
Centre de Recherches du Service de Santé des Armées Emile Pardé
Research Topics: (1) Use of acoustic otoemissions as marker of SOMAN intoxication (2) Influence of stress on the cochlear fonction and sensitivity to noise. Technical approaches: Audiometry; Distortion product otoemissions; Behavior; Histology.

Research Associate
Jerry Pettis Veteran Medical Center
Research topic: Role of oxidative stress in noise / chemical interactions. (1) Investigation of the oxidative stress mechanisms in the potentiation of noise-induced hearing loss by acrylonitrile. (2) Study of the interaction between noise and JP8 (fuel used by NATO jet planes). Technical approaches: Combined exposures to noise and chemicals; distortion products; compound action potentials; cochlear histology; immunohistochemistry; determination of DNA oxidation and repair in the cochlea.

PhD student
National Institute of occupational Health and Security (INRS)
Neurotoxicity and Immunotoxicity Laboratory Principal Investigator: Dr. Pierre Campo. Thesis topic: Investigation of the effect of aging on the auditory sensitivity to styrene and noise in the rat: ototoxicity and neurotoxocity. Technical approaches: Exposure to organic solvents by inhalation; determination of hearing threshold by far-field recording in the inferior colliculus (chronic implantation); cochlear dissection and hair cell counting; transmission and scanning electron microscopy.
