Ben Schulman

Lab assistants act as undergraduate Teaching Assistants in the Department of Computer Science. I am a lab assistant for three sections of CS200, the introductory computer science course at University of Wisconsin-Madison. I teach students the fundamentals of computer science and have office hours where I can help my students in a more intimate setting.

As an intern I worked in a pod with three other interns in the Commercial Tech branch of Capital One. As a pod, we: • Designed a micro-service oriented architecture consisting of a Java back-end and Python (Django) micro-service for an internal testing tool. • Designed the Python micro-service for API calls to various trade related functions of an internal trading tool. • Automated deployment of the Python micro-service in its AWS EC2 instance through bash scripting.

As a summer intern, I worked on four major projects during my time at SPQI: • I studied Principal Component Analysis as applied to trend-following futures trading portfolios. Using Python, I developed research notebooks for SPQI to aid them in creating new trading strategies. • I wrote hill climbing and genetic optimization algorithms in order to achieve optimal diversity in futures trading portfolios. • I ported a trading results calculation program from C++ to Python. • For Sterling Partners Equity Advisors, I studied Modern Portfolio Theory and wrote Monte Carlo simulations in order to find the efficient frontier for a given universe of stocks.

As an intern at Sterling, I mostly worked with data. I used my skills in programming (mostly python) to analyze and visualize certain types of data. I also wrote programs to automate certain repetitive and generally manual tasks.

PointDrive is a sales tool, aiding professionals in delivering content in a professional manner to their customers. PointDrive has since been acquired by LinkedIn. • Aided in production by testing the product for bugs. • Helped debug and write unit tests for the product.
