Working on special projects related to data and administrative management.

Presented research entitled, “Morbidity and mortality in takin (Budorcas taxicolor) populations in North American Zoological Institutions from 1997 to 2017”. Attended workshop entitled, “Great Ape Health Masterclass (Emphasis on Cardiac Disease)” and lectures focusing on ethics and welfare, hoofstock, and primates.

Designed, planned, and conducted research in Ethiopia for a project entitled, “Epidemiology and genotypic characterization of multi-drug resistant Salmonella in wild canids”. Summarized and presented findings in the 2016 and 2017 Summer Research Program Retreat. Project continuing for my MPH thesis.

Research project entitled, “Assessing Long-Term Stress in Great Apes”. Organize medical records data from captive gorilla populations.

Performed research regarding Cichlid fish personality tests. Observed fish to assess their curiosity, boldness, and aggression levels. Cleaned and maintained tanks, including test chemical levels, scrubs tanks, check temperature.

Cleaned and maintained enclosures, habitats, and yards. Prepared food and vitamins for animals. Observed keeper talks and animal trainings. Attended three informational sessions (Enrichment and Training, Zoonotic Diseases, AZA/SSP's); assessed progress via biweekly quizzes. Observed the leopard using an ethogram to assess her daily routine; helped minimize stereotypical behaviors by updating her enrichment list. Participated in overnight birth watching shifts for an okapi and a red panda.

Prepared animals for surgery by inserting an endotracheal tube and sanitizing surgical area. Recovered animals after surgery by checking vital signs, temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, mucous membrane color, and capillary refill time. Practiced low-stress restraining for checkups and administration of medication and vaccinations. Restocked materials, made surgery packs, and completed random cleaning and maintenance as needed. Observed appointments and watched surgeries including neuters, spays, amputation, foreign object removal from stomach, and dental work. Headed the weekly discount vaccine clinic; prepared vaccinations, signed in and out patients

Assist professors, veterinarians, and students to find articles, journals, or books. Answer phone, check-in/out items, and reshelf books

Collecting a variety of organ samples for a project entitled, “Surveillance for rabies and zoonotic pathogens in Ethiopian Wildlife”. Conducted hyena population surveys to estimate wild hyena populations. Installing GoPro cameras on local dogs and camera traps to monitor wildlife-domestic species interactions.

Accepted into the ORWH-NIH-FAES High School Summer Program and choosen to conduct research in the Laboratory of Molecular Immunology affiliated with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at NIH
