I was born in a war zone, riots right outside my home, I remember my mother saying: “Nothing to worry about, it's a party they are all enjoying themselves.” Later I learned that our relational template is built from ages 1-7 I was 5 then. What I didn’t know is that I had learned to go towards violence not against it. We escaped to the US at age 7 leaving all other family members behind. I was bullied throughout the end of high school for being Persian. I remember hiding in bathrooms during lunch pretending to put on makeup in disguise so nobody knew I was hiding and didn’t have friends. Until I met the crowd that took all the pain away as they introduced me to drugs & alcohol. Trauma & pain gone at the speed of light. I had found heaven so I thought. Years of addiction and abuse landed me in places I wouldn’t throw my trash. Darkness had taken over. My twenties were nothing but fear, abuse, addiction, with severe mental health problems. I found God at age 27 and by age 30 I got sober. I have spent the last 23 years unpacking and trying to understand what happened to me. In sobriety I faced sexual assaults & abuse. I had no other choice if I wanted to stay sober. I knew my wounds were directly linked to drug and alcohol addiction. I went into the dark night of the soul as I weeped for my lost childhood for over 2 years. Uncontrollable tears day in and day out. At times I would pop blood vessels in my eyes and had to go to the ER because I couldn’t see. What I know now is God was doing the spiritual surgery on me.
